I do not know if this has been talked about?

I want to know which brand of supplements have you tried for this and did it work?
I know Vital but when i get to Dischem they just confuse me with the different choices:eek:.
Are they basically all the same or do they differ?

Omega 3 is considered bad to supplement AFAIK. The body produces enough on its own, and too much is bad.
(I'm the worst person to listen to for anything medical, so take my comment with the pinch of salt it's worth:))

All brands of vitamins are definitely not alike... Cheap vitamins are often in a form that is not easily absorbed by the body.

As far as Omega 3 goes... it is a great supplement - it cannot be produced by the body, it has to be eaten. Omega 6 and 9 are produced by the body and aren't really needed as a supplement. Omega 3 is great for vegetarians.

I use the UNIQUE brand of Omega 3 6 9. Hard to say if it 'works', because there is no obvious/physical effect. At least not for me :)

...but i'm not sure if its worth using the supplement, as i don't feel any different - but then again i've been using it for 6-7months, so i might just be healthier and not know it.

Omega 3 fatty acids have very noticeable effects on blood clotting. This is why they are beneficial in preventing heart attacks and strokes. If you take a reasonable amount you should find that wounds bleed much more profusely than before.

Clicks also have a house branded Omega 3 supplement which might be cheaper than the Dischem one.

There was an interesting documentary about Omega 3 fatty acids on Special Assignment on SABC3 a few years ago entitled "Could Fish Make My Child Smart?"

But Sinclair’s idea was so controversial he was ridiculed and subsequently lost his post at Oxford. Undeterred, Sinclair set up a research lab in his house, selling some of the family silver to fund his studies. For a hundred days, he ate nothing but oily fish and minced seal. Whilst he was on this diet, Sinclair carried out an unusual experiment. He cut himself and timed how long it took to stop bleeding. Initially, he bled for two minutes. But after several weeks it took fifty minutes for his blood to stop flowing. He had become like an Inuit who bleed copiously when cut. Sinclair believed he had finally found the answer. Omega 3 could help reduce the risk of a heart attack by preventing blood from clotting. Tom Sanders, like Hugh Sinclair, took high doses of omega 3 to see if it would help protect us against heart disease. Unlike Sinclair, he stuck to capsules rather than seal blubber.

Another interesting documentary about the effects of Omega 3 ...
BBC Truth About Food - S01/EP06 - How to Be the Best
... Also, get set to test whether the omega-3 in oily fish can give stressed-out cabbies a less taxing day ...

ok, so omega3 might help with heart attacks etc... but what if you get shot? or get into a car accident? you'll just bleed everywhere to the point that you die anyways

The older you get the more likely you are to die from a heart attack/stroke.

You need to look after your body - just cause there's a 1 in million change (maybe a lot higher in SA) you might get shot doesn't mean you shouldnt look after yourself. Otherwise you might as well just jump in front on a bus now :)

I used to have high colestrol and took omega 3 tablets with salmon oili think - the solgar range. Not cheap but work like a bomb!

i really doubt you are going to bleed to death quicker than someone who doesn't take omega 3.

I also use UNIQUE products :) Unique Formulations is definitely a better line than Vital and the "house" brands of pharmacies. I have heard from many people that the Dischem branded products are really poor quality.

Like most things in life, cheap is crap :)
