The banks would come down on the dealer like a tonne of bricks at the first sign of something going wrong, legitimately so.
Extras as in carpets, fuel, valet, etc. Not stuff bolted to the car.
I know what extras you're talking about, but dealers usually won't budge on their on the road fee, and it usually doesn't include anything special extra.

You're dealing with the wrong dealers.
The motor industry, unfortunately, does allow a lot of room for dealers to be ****ers. That doesn't mean they all are, though. All I'm saying is that once have a breakdown of fees - to which you're perfectly entitled - you have every right to negotiate. If you don't want R500 carpets you should be wholly able to decline them.

LOL, I've just been reading another thread where everyone is bit ch ing about the fact that carpets aren't standard....we just cannot win.
I think that people who have known me long enough will know that I will NOT rip you off.
Once again, there is no excuse for CMH charging 5 - 6 k for OTRC's - I really do believe that our charges are not excessive.

Sorry I didn't realise that you lived in Saudi....do you know how much a litre cost today, and what it costs to fill a car with a 65 litre tank? - I said a full tank, not a half tank. And, sure you can get crappy mats for 350, and they will last youy all of 18 months or so, whilst they slide around and get hooked under your pedals, before you have to replace them with a 900 set of tailor made fitted mats that stay where they should. 600 for licence? Sure, if it's some small car, and you are renewing - this is licence AND registration - not quite the same.

You seem to have missed the part where he was referring to a bantam. I just checked the fuel log on my SO's Materia, only two tanks over 400. Guess she's shipping it off to Saudi twice a month... Ps, it has carpets. I was based the license cost of a bantam on what I paid for the Materia last year.

And you missed the part where I was talking about a Subaru with a 65 litre tank - my figures relate to Subaru and the costs involved in getting it on the road - not a Materia or a Fazda bakkie.
I am also not talking about topping a tank up - cars arrive with literally enough gas in them to drive off the transporter and into the PDI bay before running out of fuel - our 65 litre tank, when filled to the brim actually takes closer to 70 litres, and that's what we pay for - even so, let's say that the manufacturer was generous and we only had to put 60 litres into the tank - it is still 12.83 x 60 = R 769.80, which is almost 100% more than the R 400 that you quote.
You also studiously ignore the fact that a business is supposed to be run at a profit, and I am so, so tired of trying to correct people on this forum, when they go on and on about the massive profits that the "stealers" make - they don't.
Our dealership costs R 1.2 million/month just to open the front doors - we are not a bunch of thieves rolling around in our gold at the end of the month - this is the real world, and in the real world, businesses cost money to run....we are NOT Non Profit Organisations, and it's time people started realising that.
If you don't want to pay dealer prices then don't buy from dealers, and learn to service your own car and buy cars on Gumtree. I really don't care - just get off the soap box - it won't change a thing.

If you feel so wronged by forum, why bother explaining it, I didn't ask you to, and certainly haven't been moved by your explantion? First it was for employment, "The license guy" , now its business and profit.
Like I said, I won't pay it, and I don't - didn't on my Hilux, didn't on the Materia, and I won't on any future car. I'll gladly do it myself, and buy my cheap carpets which have been working perfectly in my Hilux for the last 8 years after I lost the originals.

Engine? I don't think engine size matters here... Neither does the size of every small car's tank. You were talking about the Bantam or maybe the Materia.
Interestingly, a Materia's tiny 40l tank would also cost more than R500 to fill from empty. Once again, just saying...

I rather play by the salesmen's rules and then try to twist their arm for more trade-in or a nice discount. This of course if the on the road fee is reasonable... If you come in there demanding not to pay the on the road fee, they are not going to budge on anything else. So, now you've saved yourself R3500, but you lost out on R5000 extra trade in and a R10000 discount...

In our case we have always bought it cash outright so we have never had the "financed-car-dealership-obligation-to-the-banks" problem. With the last car our dealer gave us a very nice breakdown and we were able to decide what we did want and did not want:
Insurance sir? Nothx
Full Tank sir? Yesplz
Big Bow on the car sir? Nothx
etc etc
Whether it is explicitly specified in the breakdown is material imo. I get to see what I pay for with my own money.

I checked, the VW Golf 4 I bought in 2002 - "On the road fee's" were R2500 - I got bugger all, except licensing, even the tank of petrol barely made it to the BP to fill up, I remember it clearly because I didn't actually think I'd make it to the garage. And this was from VW.

Precisely, which is why I've told the salesman to scrap the fee, and if his sales manager even hints at making it mandatory I will walk away from the deal.
