I must hook up mom with internet, she has a mtn contract. So I know its possible to load data bundles, but can she load a once off bundle? Reason is she want to load one and see how much she needs. And will that bundle also last 60 days? Thanks

I believe so, although it's not truly "once off", it's like an SMS bundle, you add it to your services and it will run until you deactivate it. I've done it before with my phone contract, but i remember it was a bit of a schlep having to call the helpdesk everytime. MTNActive -should- technically provide this functionality online, but for some reason my contracts don't have any service options..but i know the Top Up people do this thing alot.

If you choose a recurring bundle it will "renew" itself every month. If you choose ad-hoc or once off it will be loaded once and expire at the end of next month.

Sounds like a similar problem to the one I had, just keep trying to call 1761 and when you eventually get through they will sort you out.

Mtn cant even get their existing services up and running, so maybe trying to add that feature will be the end for mtn.

So then I can load a once-off bundle then on a contract?

Amazing, i logged a call/query on MTNActive about this and they fixed it. If you use MTNSP https://active.mtn.co.za/mtnsc/?pid=285 , under "Activate Services" on your contract you will get something like this:

PSD 100MB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 79.99 Activate
PSD 10MB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 10.00 Activate
PSD 1GB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 289.00 Activate
PSD 2GB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 389.00 Activate
PSD 350MB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 168.99 Activate
PSD 500MB BUNDLE Immediate/Future-Dated R 0.00 R 189.00 Activate

You basically just click "activate" there to load it and then likewise "deactivate" .

What exactly has been fixed?

Are you sure those aren't recurring bundles?

Oh in my case i did not have any services to activate. Now it's added. And yes it's recurring bundles as far as i can tell. You activate it, they stay there and renew every month until you go click there "deactivate" . That's why i initially said i'm not sure about "true" once-off bundles on contract, on prepaid yes, you get them [go via the 141 prompting thing] .

Is there any other way to buy them?
I've only been able to buy recurring pre-paid bundles on the USSD system, well they try and recur and will fail if you don't have sufficient airtime.

I was wondering how one is supposed to be able to make use of the new 60 day bundles if they recur after 30 days. Presumably if you cancel the bundle before 30 days is up you lose your bundle balance.

Ginggs, Good programme you have. All the USSD's are there.
Saves me time checking my bundle balance. Don't need to remove my SIM from Fastlink and check it on my cell.
Have not tried it but I am sure you can purchase a data bundle from the console.

On MTN Prepaid yea, only way is via the USSD mechanism. On Contract however you can do it via the web on MTNActive aka "MTNInactive" [because it's CONSTANTLY down for maintenance, like right now.. ], however it's like pulling teeth mostly.

Vodacom on the other hand got the Vodacom4me website that works for Prepaid -and- Contract.

OK, but I have only been able to buy recurring bundles via USSD on pre-paid and MTNActive on contract. Where do you find the once-off bundles?

I see there's no way to add a service (data bundle) to my contract once off only. So say I load a recurring bundle, must it be active for some time before I can cancel it? What my plan was is to load the bundle, then cancel it so it doesn't get loaded the next month again. But if I cancel it, will the remaining data still be available for whats left of 60 days?

That "once-off" option is available when you load it via 555 on prepaid.
Jacqvt its not in that 555 menu for contract?
Go to the load data bundles menu then its something like load a "once off" data bundle or a subscription data bundle.

well 555 option isn't working for me. Keeps telling me I'm not registered for mtn me to you or something like that. No other options available.

Are you calling 555, or can you buy a "once-off" bundle through USSD?

Calling 555 Ginggs, taking sim out of modem + putting into ph for loading purposes.
I'm on prepaid so maybe it does'nt offer that option on contract sim

Thanks for clearing that up, I eventually figured out how to do it through USSD, details here.

That's correct, so far the only way to buy bundles on contract is via MTN Active and I don't see the option for the once-off bundles yet.
