OnePlus 10 Pro

Weekly poll results: the OnePlus 10 Pro shows promise, but it needs glowing reviews

The OnePlus 10 Pro may not bring any jaw-dropping upgrades, but it is shaping up to be a solid improvement over the 9 Pro, judging by last week’s poll. However, as the retail price of every OnePlus flagship crept up, fans became more discerning.

The majority of voters who are interested in the 10 Pro will be holding off until the reviews are out – and they better be good. A smaller yet still substantial portion of voters already like what they see and don’t expect any surprises.

The most interesting part of those reviews will be how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 performs, but that is a concern for most 2022 Android flagships. The improvements to the second-gen Hasselblad camera are another major point of interest, especially since OnePlus still hasn't adopted a periscope lens and has dropped that large sensor in the ultrawide module (but has equipped a much wider lens).

Yet another big question that worries would-be buyers is what would happen to OxygenOS after its merger with ColorOS. After all, OxygenOS was one of the leading reasons to get a OnePlus.

Most fans will have plenty of time to ponder these questions as the OnePlus 10 Pro is only available in China for now (where it ships with ColorOS). The phone will likely go global in March, but we still haven’t heard anything about the pricing officially or unofficially. And by that time there will have been one or two major flagship launches.

OnePlus could launch 10 Ultra model later this year

With the OnePlus 10 Pro already out in China and reportedly coming to Europe in March we looked set in terms of premium OnePlus phones. Yet a new rumor however suggests that we may see an Ultra model in the near future as tech journalist Yogesh Brari suggests the device is already in its early engineering testing phase.

Based on the new leak, we can expect OnePlus to adopt Oppo’s MariSilicon X NPU which has its own ISP for image processing. The OnePlus 10 Ultra may share other key features with Oppo’s upcoming Find X5 Pro Plus but we’re not yet told what these are. The OP 10 Ultra is expected to launch sometime in the second half of the year so there’s plenty of time for more details to emerge.

Global OnePlus 10 Pro will still run OxygenOS, new rumor claims

The global launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro is apparently coming in the next few weeks, as the phone was rumored to be in stores by the end of March. Unlike the already available Chinese version, which runs Oppo's ColorOS, the global model was supposedly coming with a new unified ColorOS + OxygenOS skin. At least that's what the two companies announced back in September, when the OnePlus 10 series was specifically mentioned as the first to get the new unified OS.

Well, according to a new rumor from a usually reliable tipster, that's not happening. Apparently, the OnePlus 10 Pro will launch globally with OxygenOS still on board. It's unclear whether this means full, classic, old-style OxygenOS, or the newer version (as seen on the Nord 2) which look like OxygenOS but has ColorOS code underneath.

I have a mate in imports who could probably land the 12gb/256gb 10Pro for around 13k all in... If I weren't so broke I would jump on it.

How?

The cheapest 12GB / 256GB 10Pro on AliExpress is just under R15k excluding shipping or import duties...

After that you probably in for R18K+...

Was basing it on the advertised price here...

He brings in building supplies, not sure what value but quite large I would imagine. The last phone I got through him was the OP 7 Pro, 10k all in... the advertised price is what I paid at the end of the day + vat, no custom duties... that was back in June 2019...

OnePlus 10 Pro is now available in White Extreme edition

The OnePlus 10 Pro flagship launched in China earlier this year in two colors - Green and Black. Today, the company announced a third color is joining in - Panda White. Pre-orders for what the company calls Extreme Edition are open, with the actual sale and shipments scheduled for March 1.

The Panda White smartphone will be offered in just one memory configuration - 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, which is an improvement over the 12/256GB variant, announced during the January launch. Aside from the colors, everything else remains the same - Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, massive 1440p screen, and a triple camera with 48MP main, 8MP 3.3x telephoto and 50MP ultrawide units.

are smartphone manufacturers running out of ideas?
seriously 4 cameras, why?
same with the s22 and every other phone these days, do you absolutely need that many cameras?

or is it the modern equivalent of the XLE Badge on the back of your Toyota Corolla.

OnePlus 10 Pro snaps in half in bend test

The OnePlus 10 Pro was unveiled for the Chinese market back in January, and earlier today it got a new Panda White version. The phone is yet to come to any markets outside of China, but hopefully that will happen soon.

In the meantime, YouTuber Zack from JerryRigEverything has decided to put the OnePlus 10 Pro through his signature "durability test", which includes some screen scratching and burning as well as a bend test.

The handset starts off well with the Gorilla Glass Victus on top of its display scratching at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, with deeper grooves at level 7. Par for the course, then. The sides of the phone are confirmed to be made from aluminum, as are the buttons. Even if there's no official IP rating, the SIM card slot has a water-protective gasket. The burn test goes as expected too, with the AMOLED screen lasting for about 40 seconds until it's toasted by a direct flame from a lighter and then never recovers.

But then, calamity strikes. Not only does the OnePlus 10 Pro fail the bend test, it does so very badly. Make sure you watch the video until the end to see it snap in half. The back cracks first, when the phone is bent from the front, and then when bent from the back... it just snaps and dies. That hasn't happened very often during the past few years, and while this test is extreme - we wouldn't want you to buy a OnePlus 10 Pro and then forget it in your back pocket, that's for sure.

OnePlus: OxygenOS 13 will be closer to stock UI, OnePlus 10 Pro launching end of March globally

OnePlus today had a bevy of announcements for Mobile World Congress. These focused on the company's future software and hardware launches, as well as expanding to more markets in 2022.

Starting with software, OnePlus has confirmed that OxygenOS 13 will be closer to stock Android. This decision was based on the feedback to OxygenOS 12 launched last year, which was roundly criticized for its decision to essentially become a clone of Oppo's ColorOS.

According to OnePlus, OxygenOS and ColorOS will still share codebase but will remain distinct properties with a user experience close to what their individual user bases expect. For OxygenOS, this means going back to the clean and simple stock Android appearance. OxygenOS 13 will be releasing later this year with Android 13.

Next is a hardware announcement for the OnePlus 10 Pro. This latest flagship from OnePlus has had a rather limited launch so far in China but will see a global launch by the end of March. This wider launch will take place in North America, India, and Europe.

The company will also be expanding its range of affordable smartphones in the Nord range. It will be launching its most affordable 5G smartphone in India and Europe later this year. There will also be more IoT product launches in 2022.
