Oneplus 5

Some OnePlus 5s are reportedly rebooting after dialing 911

Some OnePlus 5 users are unable to call emergency services on their devices, according to user complaints on Reddit. A handful of OnePlus 5 owners have complained that the device will reboot itself once 911 is called, preventing them from reaching emergency services.

Reddit user Nick Morrelli noticed the glitch after he tried to call 911 to report a building fire in Seattle, and other users have reported that the OnePlus 5 is unable to dial 911 (or 999 in the UK, as another user reported) without rebooting. While most users haven’t reported having the issue, any percentage of devices not being able to reach emergency services is a major issue for OnePlus.

In a statement to The Verge, OnePlus says it’s looking into the problem. “We have contacted the customer and are currently looking into the issue. We ask anyone experiencing a similar situation to contact us at [email protected]."

That's a bit of a lemon... There's quite a bit that needs fixing with the next update...

Got my oneplue 5 6gb version :D very nice phone and worth every cent
havent noticed any of the jelly scrolling or any other issues

the package came with a silicon case, micro usb to type c converter and a tempered glass protector but the phone comes with a screen protector on it already (not glass by the looks of it, just a normal one)

only issue i had was transferring my data from my old samsung over to the onplus
i used a software called wondershare mobile basically the exact same as syncios, just be careful though because it does seem to skip a lot of pics and texts when copying over

if anyone has a better tool to use please feel free to post it here, i did try to use NFC but that didnt work out nicely for me
the share on my old samsung was also limited to 500 items per move so couldnt move everything at once.

i dont like the idea of syncing my pics etc with google so that why i didnt use that

Congrats. I'm loving my OP5. I was going to order the silicone case until I saw on the product page that it was nearly 1cm thick. So I went with the kevlar protective case, which is as thin as any case can be and flush with the rear camera.

Why don't you want to sync with Google Photos? Saved me a huge amount of time with backing my phone up. You could always just copy your media onto a PC and back onto the OP5. Nothing else needed backing up for me I think. All my apps store their own info in the cloud and you just have to login. Telegram is cloud-based and doesn't need backing up. I don't care about saving smses.

thanks, the silicon one that came with it is quite nice and fits the phone just right doesnt add on much more thickness to the phone but i have ordered an original sandstone one so i'll switch to that when it comes in a month

dont like the idea of syncing my personal photos with google and no there's nothing p0rno on there :D it just makes me nervous but maybe i'm getting old and grumpy and should actually use it

You might be surprised at what a useful service Google Photos is. Just knowing that your pics are safely backed up online is great, but the intelligent features are great too. You can search your pics with vague descriptions, by location, by names of people etc. The facial and location recognition is awesome.

Also, since you need to store it unencrypted, they probably use it to train their AI on face detection. I don't want my kid be targeted by ads one day because his old man stored photos on Google Photos

That's what uBlock Origin is for.

How does that stop an AI being trained on my personal photos for face detection? I back up all my photos to the cloud - but not unencrypted, and not to Google Photos

Day 3: Nothing
Day 4: Package shipped finally!
Was away for a while, so here's my updates finally.

Day 5: Package in Hong Kong.
Day 6: UAE
Day 7: South Africa, incl customs.
Day 8: delivered at home (Cape Town)
...
Day 11: back at home to finally get my hands on it!!!

Very satisfied with the ordering process. Would have been even faster if not for the seller's (PopHong) initial 2 day delay.

Worked out to just over R8,000 in total. R7500 ($546) for the 6GB version plus original Sandstone cover and 2.5D tempered glass protector (ordered when the Rand was about 13.50). Customs was R500. Seller also included a cheap silicone skin and a USB type A to C convertor. OnePlus include a film protector fitted to the phone as well as what appears to be a 2D tempered glass protector in the box.

I'm still busy setting up the phone and copying over apps, etc. Initial impressions are very good. It's super fast and I haven't had any jelly scrolling or other issues. Loving the fingerprint sensor.

(My poor Nexus 5 feels ancient now)

Mine was R7500 for 8GB version incl. flip case, but R1500 tax and R1000 shipping. That is via Stackry, tax and shipping killed the deal.

Why does it matter if the photos are used by bots? You won't have to deal with ads, which are the only unpleasant aspect of the equation.

I peeled my screen protector off because it had lifted ever so slightly at one point along the top. It's just cheap plastic. The screen looks and feels nicer without it, so I'm glad I didn't wait years to do it. Gorilla Glass 5 won't scratch until a 6 on the Moh scale, which is pretty hardcore. No random object will be a problem.

Just placed my order through AilExpress, looking forward to finally upgrading my aging HTC One M7.

Was thinking about getting this case from bid or buy:

http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/294930070/LENUO_Matte_PC_Hard_Phone_Case_Cover_for_OnePlus_5.html

Any suggestions?

It looks alright, but the protective cases from OnePlus are so amazing you really should aim for those. Just order directly from oneplus.net and use a mail forwarding service to get to SA. I have the Karbon case and it's as perfect as a case can be. High quality, very thin (flush with camera lenses), doesn't extend width or height of phone, microfibre interior and looks really great.
