Oneplus 5

I also went with the 64GB version. My OnePlus One has 64GB storage too and it's been more than enough. May as well just save the money, and price is generally the reason to buy OnePlus devices anyway.

What transportation you using? Family travelling back from the UK with my OP5 on the 10th this month.

Why the sandstone cover? The kevlar one looked badass, which is the one I chose.
The store has DHL shipping for $29. Not a fan of the Kevlar look, may get one at a later stage. Thought sandstone would be an interesting option given the good reviews the texture got on the OnePlus One.

Progress so far:
Day 1: received payment, payment awaiting confirmation. Seller sent reminder that their price doesn't include import duties/VAT.
Day 2: order awaiting shipment

The sandstone back of my OPO was pretty cool, but it lost the finish after around a year. And long before then lost most of the grittiness. For 2 years now it's been a completely smooth back.

I got totally nailed with duties and VAT with my OPO. Hopefully you fare better than I did.

Have OnePlus not been caught inserting code that maxes out the device to trick benchmarking scores basically?

I think news sites blew the issue out of proportion. The OP5 doesn't overclock itself, it just runs full throttle. The same state triggers with graphically intensive games. The phone is just showing off what it can do in real world use. Benchmarks aren't normal apps and I assume OnePlus had concerns the hardware wouldn't ramp up suitably.

At the end of the day, it's a Snapdragon 835 running on vanilla Android and a 1080p display. We don't need benchmarks to know how that will perform.

I just received my OP5. Didn't know that DHL delivers on Sundays!
Hmmm now to figure out how to use Android and transfer from iPhone 6.

I regret not ordering a cover for it. Darn it!

Yeah, it's slippery as all hell apparently! Need to get it pouched ASAP!!

Scored 87 on DxOMark, absolutely brilliant considering the competition built by dollar billion companies does not score that much better:

Agreed! Outstanding result given their limited resources. All if you consider the cost of the 5?!! I wonder what progress could be made with software updates? I reckon the camera will get better and better with future software updates!!

Yeah, they have. And really they don't need to. Just spend 5 minutes with the phone and you'll soon realize it is one of the best performing smart phones on the market. Only the iPhone 7 can match it in performance tests.

Gees, that must have been quite a surprise for you?! Awesome man, congratz!!

So what your first impressions? I went from a 6s to 3T. Very happy with it! Really enjoying Android on a 3T! Is a bit of a learning curve coming from iOS but the open source nature of Android is liberating!!

Day 4: Package shipped finally!

Ok, so my total cost for 128GB OP5 + flip cover is about R10 000.

Exchange rate, shipping, taxes screwed me a bit. To be delivered in next day or two.

Guys, do anyone of you notice this jelly effect they were talking about on the 5?

Just had a visit from DHL, will check and report back.

Phone is cool, also comes with screen protector. Flip case is very nice.

Can't say that I have any noticeable jelly effect, certainly nothing that will bother me.

Busy upgrading software at the moment.

Will report back if any funnies.

After my S7 edge hit-and-run episode will be very careful with this phone, will use old OnePlus One when I go to any dodgy areas (unfortunately that includes most of SA, these days).

i think the phone comes with a silicon one - will that be suitable or would i need to get another one ?

You won't find cases locally. No cases are included free of charge. I paid a bit extra in my order to add the really cool looking kevlar bumper case.

The easiest thing is to get synced with Google. Download their app on iPhone and sync your contacts. Also sync all your photos with Google Photos.

If you're used to Apple Music, the app for it on Android is really nice.

Imported a Nillkin case for my Oneplus 3 via Amazon was super fast. took 5 days super impressed with the case!

I have been playing with the phone for more than a day, no trace of a "jelly effect" .

Maybe I just don't know what to look for, but I have no problems.

The phone is super fast and the battery life is good. Also charges quickly.

BTW, the wifi speed is stunning, I get close to 100Mbps Speedtest over my FTTH (up and down). This is on 5Ghz ac.

50MB Apps download in a blink of an eye.
