Oneplus 7T and 7T Pro

Cancellation terms state a 'reasonable fee' that they pen at 75% of the balance of the contract. R399 * 24 = 9576 * .75 = R7182
So you could get it, cancel contract and pay R7182?

Wonder if @Ockie would be able to provide any answers regarding the 7T/7T Pro:
1.) Network locked or not?
2.) Vodacom bloatware custom installed on the phone?
3.) Dual sim functionality disabled or not?

Only have 7T Pro on my list. It is not network locked. It is not in my dual sim prepaid dealsheets, so no, it is not dual sim version. I would assume Vodacom will have its custom firmware with their apps etc loaded.

Would also like to know if Vodacom will stock newer OnePlus phones too.
Stocking more models would depend on uptake of the OnePlus brand. If the currently stocked models dont move units, then they wont and would most likely stop stocking OnePlus all together. Happened with Motorola etc. But Vodacom have expanded portfolio nicely. Xiaomi, OnePlus, Vivo etc.

I could be wrong, but there are no single-sim variants of the OnePlus 7T - they're all dual sim. It's maybe just that Vodacom does not advertise the dual-sim feature.

Dankie Ockie! :)

I'd definitely consider getting OnePlus through Vodacom if they stocked the current 8th gen at acceptable prices, but yeah - besides a few tech nerds like us, no one knows about OnePlus in general... so I don't foresee them ever moving larges amounts of units - unless OnePlus themselves officially move into the SA market and spend some money on marketing.

Seems to be the case, but I suspect that they are doing the same thing as T-Mobile did with the OnePlus 7T Pro:
...the shortcoming is rather software imposed, as one can buy a third party dual SIM tray and flash the unlocked firmware on the T-Mobile model to use two SIMs simultaneously...

They do it on the firmware side. Second sim gets deactivated in the software. There was a Huawei model which Vodacom had a while ago which was physically a dual sim but the second sim was deactivated in the firmware. Some got around this by flashing the normal non branded Huawei rom and the dual sim functionality became available.

Thanks for the feedback @Ockie much appreciated.

I assume unlocking the OEM and flashing a stock ROM would void warranties? Or is it a case of the luck of the draw when a phone is logged for a repair?

If you flash a stock rom I dont see why there would be any warranty issues. It is OnePlus provided software.

Well, from what I have read from studying up on how to flash my old HTC One and Lenovo Z2 Plus with Lineage OS to get them on Android 10, it pretty much always states that unlocking the Bootloader voids warranty. When I turn my devices on after having done the bootloader unlock and flashing Lineage, it now has a red message on the boot screen saying something about it being for development purposes only etc. The repair guys are bound to see that message. But short answer, if it is the proper ROM from OnePlus on it, then I dont see why the warranty should be void. However, you could have had numerous OS's on there and then only loaded the official one when something went wrong and it must go in for repair. I just dont know really. Sorry.

According to OnePlus unlocking the bootloader does not void warranty. This may differ between different manufacturers.

The distributor that imports the 7t Pro hasn't brought in any phones from the 8 or Nord series and they were last active on social media on 11 Oct 2020.

Thing is, Vodacom is the one that "honors" the warranty. OnePlus dont have their own retail and repair places like for example Samsung where you can take your device to. If you need a warranty repair on a Vodacom supplied OnePlus, you would need to take it to a Vodacom repair centre. But who knows, maybe the OnePlus does not show that red message on boot if you unlock the bootloader like other OEM's do.

Oneplus displays the following warning message.

Anyone know when this R399 offer ends?
That's a tricky one! @Ockie would be best qualified to answer. I think it's being marketed as a Black Friday promotion? I would imagine once the stock is depleted? Who knows how many they have in stock? Wouldn't wait too long if I were you. It's a sweet deal!

Yesterday, It took all of about 3 minutes for me to convince my brother in law to pull the trigger on this deal. He's been a Samsung loyalist for as long as I can remember.... 11 years? Give or take...

Eagerly awaiting feedback whether he gets a dual sim enabled device. If he does, I'll take one of these as well.

Yeah, agreed! That could be the deal breaker for many users, myself included! Having said that I've rooted everyone of my last 5 OP devices. Loading a stock rom is not an issue... in fact stock OOS + no limits xXx custom rom is about as close to perfect as you get in a smart phone...
