So, today marks one week since getting my OnePlus, and I thought I’d share my experience thus far....
I think think the most important thing to start off with is to say that this certainly does not feel like a $350 phone. The construction is sleek, and the phone feels solid. Even the packaging looks amazing, it certainly feels as if no expense was spared.
Size: Coming from a S4 the OnePlus is noticeably bigger. When I’m holding the phone in my right hand its hard to swipe the notification panel down with my thumb, and generally it requires two hands to operate. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable though. The phone is pretty slim, and the texture at the back gives you great grip on the device. The phone is too big to hold in one hand and multitask. For example: I went grocery shopping after gym (no pockets in my gym pants) and it was very uncomfortable to carry around.
Screen and Speed: This is one of the biggest surprises. The screen is simply magnificent. Very responsive and great colours. The resolution is simply mind blowing, especially when you view intricate webpages with fine lines etc and you zoom in. Speed wise this phone just flies. I ran a benchmark on Antutu and managed 46257, which is the top of the table. The 3gb ram gives you great multitasking ability, and even when you try to max out the phone out it doesn’t get hot like my S4 did. Everything just seems effortless.
One thing that does make me nervous is the fact that the screen is so close to the edge of the phone. I would hate to drop the phone as I just have a feeling that the screen will crack. I highly recommend getting a cover with the phone.
Battery life: I’ve been putting the phone through its paces, and even with heavy use I sit at around 50% after one full day of use. I’m sure when the novelty wears off Ill be able to go 2 days on a single cycle.
Camera: Haven’t really been able to test. Took a few pics here and there. Seems to look just fine.
Other thoughts: some people have been experiencing problems with the touchscreen etc. The new update supposedly fixed this. I didn’t have any problems to report about, think I might have been lucky. Another thing to note. The phone seems to have USB3 Connectivity when you connect it with the PC. This helps a great deal when you fill up the 64gb storage with media.
Closing: After having the phone for one week, I don’t think its enough time yet to give a full review. There are so many options and settings, it will take at least a month to test everything. From the time that I have spent with the phone Ive really been enjoying it. There aren’t really any complaints. I think its pretty much the best bang for the buck on the market. I would have paid at least a couple of grand extra if I had too.
Whats next Im going to attempt a root over the weekend, and flash the "clean" stock rom.
