Online sales speed up

Bout time too... I stopped buying from Take 2 cause they increased their core delivery time to like 10 days. Unacceptable. Lets take a gander at what these chaps offer.

If past experience is any indication I'll be very weary of buying from Digitalplanet. Last time I ordered a printer from them and had to wait around 4 weeks before delivery. One week for them to tell me they didn't have any stock (after advertising it as a special sale) and then asking if I was willing to wait. Waited for 3 weeks and they finally delivered.

The 24 hour delivery will be a huge step in the right direction only if they can keep their stock levels updated in real time, so they don't advertise an item as 24 hour delivery, only to notify you after you have ordered that they don't have stock.

Lovesay says that the company introduced speedier delivery because online retail success is "more about customer service ... and keeping customers happy".
 DUH!!!!

Ummmm, I think this is valid for any business, not just for online retail success. All business should aspire to the above if you want to be successful.

No need.

I bought a set of Zalman headphones from digitalplanet and paid for it with Ebucks on the 8th of May 2008. There was a glitch with their website and it did not properly complete the transaction but I already had the reference numbers from Ebucks. So I immediately phoned them and informed them of the problem. They said not to worry as this happens occassionally and took down the info. Their usual delivery time is 5-7 working days. After 5 working days, I phoned up to find out how my order was going (15 May 2008). I was told that they were still waiting for my proof of payment, but the operator then immediately said that it was an ebucks transfer and that it was not necessary. I was told that he fixed the mistake, but unfortunately it will now take 5-7 working days again. He admitted that it was a fault on their system.

On the 19th of May I spoke to them again, and I received an email stating that my item had been ordered. I replied asking for an ETA on the delivery time and they did not reply. I phoned them on the 20th of May to hear that they have received the headphones, and that I can inspect delivery by Friday 23 May 2008.

So to summarize:
Paid on the 8th of May 2008
Might receive on the 23rd of May 2008
12 working days.

On a previous occassion I bought an item from Digitalplanet which was clearly marked as in stock. After a week of hearing nothing from them, I phoned them up only to be told that the item had gone on backorder and that they have no ETA on when it will be arriving. They said that this happens often and that they prefer not to keep the order until the item has arrived, unless the client wants to cancel it. I cancelled it immediately.

Digitalplanet is my absolute last resort when buying something online.

Hi Crusader,

Thank you for your feedback.
We are getting stock lists that we are uploading as often as we are receiving them. We are working on these issues and realise how frustrating it is for our customers.

To set your mind at ease: Our 24 and 48 hour delivery stock levels are controlled according to the amount of stock that we buy in. Once that stock is sold - the item will automatically be removed from our website. You should not experience any problems with it. However, if you do then please email me so that I can sort it out. Feedback is very powerful:)

Kind Regards,
Karyn ([email protected])

Hi Karyn,

Nice to see there is a DP rep on MyBB now, it's about time.
But I just want to add my 5c.

I WILL NEVER EVER USE YOU GUYS AGAIN!

I've had so many bloody issues with you guys that it makes me sooooooooooo angry that only NOW you guys started to reply on MyBB because I've e-mailed and phoned and blah blah blah in the past and was just ignored.

For your sake, I hope things improve.

I'll stick to trusty sites like Take2 and Kalahari.net, DP lost me.

Hi Wyzak,

We are uploading stock lists to avoid items going onto backorder. At this point in time we are unable to mark which items are in stock so did one of our agents tell you there was stock of the item? We do have a process that our orders need to follow before the order is placed with the supplier and our supplier could sell out of the item within half an hour of placing the order. It is unfortunate and we are working on ways to overcome it.

Watch this space :)

Please keep the feedback coming through; it is all appreciated and will really help me improve the service levels.

Kind Regards,
Karyn

Hi gdiza,

I'm sorry you feel that way. I have strong beliefs that we will improve and feel that we already have in so many ways.

All the best,

Karyn

LOL, with all of the issues people here have had with DP, I see Karyn racking up alot of posts in a very short time (if she sticks around that is)

The problem with ALL on-line stores is that they are not brick-and-mortar businesses, so they do not carry the stock themselves, they are only the middle man regulating the goods form a wholesale supplier to the buyer.

Herein lies the problem, as have been shown here, it is neigh impossible to 100% know what stock levels are since you do not have the stock on hand, you rely on suppliers and their word.

Once a supplier calls out a special there is not just one company benefiting from this, so the stock sells at the speed of white light, so if you are not quick to secure your stock you will have nothing to offer you customers and that "SPECIAL" comes back to bite you.

Let me explain further...

Most wholesale suppliers are now also doing the exact same, selling stock before they even have them in store, relying again on the word of an overseas source.
Now what happens when that crate of cheap GFX cards could not ship on time for the wholesaler? They already called out the special, and now have a couple of thousands on back order, this without knowing even how many cards are going to land on our shores, see the problem???

Do I even need to take this further? Stock not available overseas any more, R/$ weakening and prices now almost double that the original, etc.
So unless you are importing yourself or have the physical stock on hand, you WILL ALWAYS face this problem.

Unfortunately I have also had a run in with DP (them not being the only ones to be fair) in the past too, since then I have founded my own company and now deal directly with the "source".
