Opel Astra Starting problem

and yup its the battery. Tried to leave now to go cycling and the cars dead. Weird I always thought the battery light would indicate any malfunction with the battery but at least it's just a battery and not a more serious electrical issue.

Yeah I always thought that to, but my old 1997 Astra had similar issues.

All battery places near me are all closed :(

Have connected a ctek charger for now so I can at least get the car to a test centre tomorrow.

It's not the first time I've encountered this with a willards battery.

Mine was a Raylite :(

The battery light shows when the alternator malfunctions. You will know that because the car then disables the power steering and steering becomes very hard.

I had crap wil Willard and Raylite, however Spirex was excellent.

So its safe to assume my alternator is not at fault and its just a bad battery seeing as the light never came on.

Yes.

Many years ago the alternator failed on my 2001 Astra G, one of the first cars to feature electric power steering. In the event of alternator failure or any other electric malfunction that would result in the battery light coming on it would disable power steering to conserve power. It was a mission to drive it to the auto electrician - steering was a workout.

If alternator light comes on check the fanbelt if if missing or damaged stop driving as fanbelt also drives the water pump . If water pump don't work car will overheat

Hi gents my car almost has a similar issue the all the lights are coming on except the engine light. Its not cranking but everything else works.

Check the battery. Opels do weird stuff when the battery goes flat.

Sounds like a electrical issue.
Check that the live is connected to the starter properly and that the fuse isn't gone.
The engine needs electricity to run or no spark.
ECU could also be faulty.

It would also help if you can come out and describe your problem, giving as much information as you possibly can.

Maybe you should just call your insurance company to tow it to the nearest dealership
