Open View PVR

I've recently been getting this mail/envelope icon appear towards the right side of the image.
How do I get rid of that thing?
I've gone into the menu and deleted all content in the "B-Mail" section. So there's no other mail to view or delete, and I've rebooted the decoder as well, but that pesky envelope icon just will not go away.
Hello, we are still awaiting technical team to do a software upgrade, unfortunately they have not given us a time frame.

That is the response they gave me

I did the factory reset earlier. Same thing. That envelope icon is still there.
It goes away when you press the "B-Mail" option, but as soon as you exit that and go back to the channel you're watching, it shows up again right away. Quite annoying.
Try going into the B-Mail screen and delete all the mail that is there. Worked for me.

Edit: Press Menu and then left/right to find the B-Mail screen.

Speaking of which. The ads on Openview has increased massively. Almost to the point that anything is unwatchable.
I have learnt to live with the ads. I hit mute the second they come on and browse thru my phone while they last. I peek at the screen occasionally to see if the ads are over then continue watching. Not that I have to do this too often because most of the content is not worth watching.

The remote supplied with this particular decoder does not have such a button. Probably an older model?
You are correct. Mine doesn't have one either. I remember my SpaceTV decoder had one.

I do the same. I change to BBC news a lot as well. I agree that most of the content sucka. The repeats are insane.

Is it possible to connect 4 openview decoders to one dish?

I have a dual lnb on the dish , was used for a DSTV PVR many years ago
Only one of the cables works with an openview decoder, perhaps the lnb is faulty or is this normal?

I suppose I need a quad lnb, any recommendations?

Yes, it is possible to connect 4 OVHD decoders to one QUAD Universal LNB with 4 cables.
A TWIN LNB, with a working 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 MS ( Multiswitch) will also work.
So will OVHD decoders connected to multi-port Unicable or SATCR LNBs, but then special non-default setups are required.
The first port of call for you would be to determine what is actually faulty, by using the single working cable to check all ports on the existing LNB. The most likely fault is simply cable connectors that need to be replaced/ re-connected. Also, verify exactly what LNB type it is.

Thanks, I want to keep the cable that works and and use 3 new cables.
The second cable goes to the same spot in my house as the first and is redundant.
I have got a very simple tingy to get the signal right but I have only used it to install a dish with a single lnb.
Will it be more difficult installing a quad lnb ?
I don't have a clue about multischwitches , I just know that I can get a Quad LNB for €14, that is about R230 , from amazon: QUAD LNB

Exactly the same as with a single port Universal LNB.
Why import? plenty of those available locally. Make sure the Lo frequencies are 10600 MHz and 9750 MHz.

I have amazon prime they send it to my home in Europe , no shipping fee , and I have a lot of friends coming to SA this time of the year.

I see a retro type channel is coming as well. Called rewind. Don't have high hopes for it though.

I bought a na9200 decoder and 32GB Openview PVR stick to play around with.

To answer the questions above - you can use a normal USB memory stick for the PVR function - *BUT* you have to change low level configuration information on the stick. Specifically, you have to change the Device Vendor and Manufacturer fields of the memory stick to "0V-USB" else the decoder rejects the stick. Otherwise there are no special configuration files.

Visit https://www.usbdev.ru as a starting point for the tools to change these fields. I successfully modified two Transcend Jetflash 64GB sticks I had laying around to work with the PVR. They use Silicon Motion (SMI) controllers and I used the SMI Mass Production tool's debug mode to update the CID (the version I used was smi_mptool_v2.5.27_v8_m1004_3257enaa)

Can you make a USB HDD work with the decoder? Perhaps... all depends on whether you can find the appropriate tools to change the device IDs. [Left as an exercise for the reader...]

Thanks for this and sorry to revive this thread. I just wanted to check if I need to change the VID and PID or is there another specific device and manufacturer setting?

I am really going insane with the repetitive ads on OVHD.
The Old Mutual, All Life ads play at every ad break. It's so irritating I feel like flies are defecating in my ears.
It's constant. Over and over. Day by day.
The ads (all of them) are so overbearing and repetitive that it feels like I'm being tortured.
I bet waterboarding isn't even this bad.
I fully get the point that ads cover the service costs, but it's jusy getting to the point that it's effecting me psychologically.
Yes I can switch off the TV and do something else, but sometimes you just want to chill and watch a show.
Anyway. That's my rant for today.

I have been recording programs on the 32gb stick from BBC World in standard definition for months now with perfect audio and video playback - the other night I decided to pause live tv at the start of open view news channel bulletin - on returning and hitting play every few seconds there was a stutter and breakup - I thought this issue was solved a long time ago - looking forward to feedback

Did you log an error with openview?

Was a recording going on in the background when pausing live TV? If so, a bad idea because the processor capability in them cheap decoders can't handle that. The breakups are triggered by a stream of interrupts triggered by the recording going on in the background. The live Tv playback buffers while the processor deals with the interrupts. Easy to prove if this is the cause, simply don't pause live TV when a recording is in progress.
Report back what you find.

Note, even DSTV decoders do this these days. The amount of authentication processing going on in the background all the time is hopelessly overwhelming the processors.

Thanks for feedback - no all my recordings are on a weekend this pause live tv was midweek

Then the issue is related to the continuous stream of authentication checks going on the in the background.
Best to not try and pause the live buffer.

I still have a thru the roof AV cables I used for old DStv decoder which I no longer use - I tried to use the AV jack and cable supplied with the OVHD decoder (HDMI connected to lounge TV) and connecting it thru the roof cables - but the picture was jumbled and more buzz than signal on audio - experimented with moving cables between different combinations of yellow red and white connections - still no change - anybody using this AV output with success
