OpenServe ONT Replacement

Would it be possible to replace the Openserve ONT with my own that supports Gigabit Passive Optical Networking via its SFP port?

Some people overseas claim they've done it, but I have looked into it and honestly it's a LOT of schlepp.
Also you would need to clone the MAC address from the existing ONT at a minimum, and there's several other parameters you might have to get by trial and error.
