Openserve to shut down ADSL exchanges

I find it odd that Openserve just accepted and installed your Pure Connect DSL and then the they killing the ISAM. I will esquire from our service manager what is the way forward. For now we suggest you use it until it gets cut off by Openserve and we take it from there.
 
Telkom's modus operandi is simple, scare away the people from its copper network so that Maseko can be able to retrench and get his millions, the more you people stick around and sign up for their copper based offering you are in direct conflict with their plans.

They are really not interested in offering alternatives and just want people to get off their copper network so that they can decomission it and get rid of the workforce in that department.

I spoke to an Openserve tech a while ago who said that most of the time the copper won't be replaced by fibre, especially in small towns. They'll just supply LTE and let people struggle. On paper this meets government's goals of broadband access for all.

You would think that Telkom would capitalise on their existing infrastructure by just pulling the fibre in after the copper, and using the sale of copper to fund the rollout. That would be a sensible idea, wouldn't it? Too bad.
 
Why don’t you get the entire street to petition Vumatel to apply to run Fibre along the poles?
They’d have to apply for way leaves, but Telkom cannot do anything to stop them

Been trying to get this done, takes really long. We hoping vuma goes ahead this year still.
Octotel has approval to go ahead, they said wont make enough money on the area, this scared off vuma. Now we back waiting for vuma. Vuma did have meetings in area, so hopefully get it one day.

For now 40mps vdsl lines purrs on along nicely.

There are no poles.

Everything is underground the entire neighbourhood, just this section of street has been ignored for some odd reason.
 
I have attempted to get some comment from Openserve, they have ignored all my mails and messages on social media.
I tried phoning Telkom who say they cant help. I cant really blame Telkom, I logged a fault in October 2019 which still isn't resolved (Rona is now the excuse).
Vumatel has no interest in rolling out in my street

Last I heard from Afrihost, they were going to get back to me about a possible solution, this was a call I made all most a month ago but no response.
 
Well, hopefully Openserve will completely forget to switch off the copper infrastructure in your area on Tuesday 1 September at 08:30AM so that it can just be business (day) as usual. But if not, tell us - what will be your agenda for the day? And what kind of news headlines should we expect to see on Wednesday?

Now I need to try figure out how to get openserve or vumatel to roll fibre down my street.

An Openserve technician did say that they're going to but then plans were cancelled

They work in very mysterious ways, you never know whether you are coming or going with these guys.

Telkom nearly halved its spending on fibre expansion through its network wholesale division Openserve during the last financial year.

@SoundRSA Vumatel was in the area today doing surveys for fibre rollout so it seems there is hope so long as enough people are aware of the impending doom of DSL here and opt-in.

I told them to get ****ed.

Happy with my 5G and never ever dealing with Telkom again.

I wonder if the only reason it happened was that the school is doing their parking construction there and they needed to remove the existing copper and didn’t want to move it.

We tried LTE and 5G, seems to be terrible in my house, even had Telkom send techies out and they confirmed my house seems to be in a dead spot, was supposed to get a signal booster but that never happened.

With that poor service from Telkom being said, other than that I havent had all that bad experience since the days of 512k ADSL, my significant others' and my phone are with Telkom and the service has been decent, plus Openserve pricing compared to Vumatel looks fantastic.

What is killing me is not having internet during loadshedding as the copper exchange goes down, we're one of the houses with power during loadshedding (solar)

I opted for the 50mb/25mb fibre line with Afrihost at R797p/m. A colleague of mine stays in Goodwood and is serviced by Vumatel. The equivalent fibre line there would cost R997 for 50mb/5mb or R1117 for 50mb/50mb plus a R1500 install fee.
