I see Openweb are advertising these accounts on their website. But what exactly are they?

Is it just a regular IS 30gb account? Or is it 30gb international + 30gb local? Why even mention local?

Why is there a price difference between 512k and 1024k? After all, 30gb is 30gb regardless of the access speed. Is 512k throttled? Don't see the point of throttling if bandwidth is limited to 30gb anyway.

Does the product require Openrouter?

I'm sure Mr Beep will enlighten us...

Hey Gatecrasher

Thank you for your interest in our new product.

It is a 30GB of local and international account, hardcapped at a total of 30GB.

Our business model for the product requires a difference in price for the two speeds mentioned, thus we had to have a small price difference.

This is a direct ADSL account that does not use a proxy server.

International runs over satellite bandwidth.

The accounts allow for 1 concurrent ADSL connection.

I hope this information will assist.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

My impression is that these are shared uncapped accounts with each connection limited to 30gb usage. I think 30gb for R989 (512k) is okay, but 30gb for R1399 (1024k) is a little steep, given that for R100 more you can buy 30gb of SAIX (fibre) bandwdith. Maybe the allowance on the 1024k should have been 60gb.

The problem with one concurrent connection is that there will often be authentication issues. Expect to wait 5 to 15 minutes for your previous connection to clear, before you can connect again.

Having used IS uncapped 1024k from January to May, and SAIX international access this month, I can say that IS international compared to SAIX international is relatively poor, especially using p2p apps. By comparison to IS, p2p and torrents on SAIX fly by 5 to 10 times faster. But IS is just as good if you have something like a Rapidshare Premium Account and can limit yourself to using mainly HTTP downloads.

Local IS is pretty good, although p2p, even on local, is all but murdered during working hours. IS news server is a bonus though, especially on cached content.

I think the question is whether, on the one hand, these accounts offer sufficient savings over their uncapped counterparts?

And on the other hand, whether the extra latency, p2p shaping, and potential authentication problems are inconveniences worth living with, rather than just buying 30gb of SAIX bandwidth outright (+-R1500)?

what i would like to ask, if you buy a 30 gig account why only have concurrent connection

your buying 30 gig does it matter who uses it up?

These are indeed NOT shared Uncapped accounts.

This will be against our agreement.

The accounts are 30GB accounts, as advertised.

2 concurrent connections for the purposes of changing over to a new IP will be allowed, but this will be controlled via the NAS port. Two different ADSL connections will not be allowed.

Thus, when your IP changes, you will be able to connect straight away.

Are the all access accounts the one's advertised when u open up openweb's main page ? 512k = R989 , and 1024k = R1399

No, it is 1024k, as advertised.

Which might be another good reason to spend the extra R100 or so and get 30gb of SAIX bandwdith rather. No speed limits.

Not that my 1024k uncapped IS account was ever limited to 1024k, mind you. IS packages usually tend to over-deliver. ;)

Which ISP offers 4MB - 30GB SAIX bandwidth for +- R1499 Please point me out to them so that I can adjust my 1024k pricing accordingly.

I don't know about a 30gb account, per se.

But 3 x 10Gb SAIX accounts from WebAfrica = 3 x R490 = R1470.

It would only be viable for me to alter pricing if someone offers a 30GB account at those prices.

Openweb, i would like to congratulate you on another excellent product. I would also like to point out, what other ISP will willingly change their prices to keep in competition with another ISP? I am not working with openweb, but i do believe they are the best ISP, coming from an independent user. Well done! :)

I would understand if it was an uncapped account, but for a capped account why do u limit users to speeds? 30gb is 30gb, 4mbps will just use it up faster thats all.

Ya, I also don't understand the speed restrictions.
