OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I'm afraid your post is far from reality.
Prove it to me and everyone, not just writing out statements.

It is a pity that these posts made out to be 'fact' are allowed on here.
Same can be said for your posts.

We do not sell stock standard accounts. If we did we would have been out of business a long time ago.

We purchase capacity and manage our own shaping.
If that was the case, you would be running your own IPC, because I haven't seen a product from IS where they resell ADSL bandwidth. Additional to that, this lie sound like the same lie I have seen posted by the Afrihost reps on here, again I know MTN also only resell accounts.

We see this matter as closed.
Of-coarse. If I was an OW rep, I wouldn't admit to the account sharing either, it will hurt your company image even more than just the stories on here.

It is unfortunate that you and PostManPot are given free reign to post here, even though you are not clients, taking every opportunity you humanly can to post negativity about OpenWeb.
See, I was a client, and got burned. I just have to make sure that as many as possible other people also know about your business practices. I don't prevent them from signing up with you, I just want to make sure they know what they are getting themselves in to, when they sign up with you. If you don't like this, you should have thought about it before you gave me a shared account when I signed up.

Fair is fair.

Shared accounts eh?
That just explains why Telkom said to me that the local petrol station also logs onto my ADSL.
I am sorry but that is a big no-no.

Can someone who know more than I do please elaborate? If this indeed the case then I need to have a new ISP by close of business today! it would explain all the unexplainable weird shyte I have seen since being with OW.

To recap:

* We run our own network capacity powered by our first tier supplier.
* There are very few accounts left that use the standard 'resell' model
* We do not share accounts. We share capacity.
* We pay for capacity. Therefore, sharing accounts on purpose would be pointless
* We do not log usage stats by default. If you would like your stats logged, kindly email [email protected] so that it can be activated
* Account theft is a reality. All ISP's suffer from this. We suggest you request regular password changes on your account to prevent this from happening. Also please keep the firmware in your router updated.

To be fair, I don't think Openweb runs on the 5-star rating system. I'm on a 1mb Gold Uncapped IS account from them and have been on the same account since July 2012. I use a lot of bandwidth. Never less than 250gb a month, especially because I share my internet connection with a flatmate and we both have high downloading needs. The line downloads almost 24/7. If one of us isn't playing online games, the line is downloading.

Despite this, I have never encountered excessively slow daytime browsing speeds and my download speeds are, at most, shaped to about 60% during business hours. If it was true that all IS resellers had to use the 5-star rating system, I would have been throttled into the ground ages ago. I'm not denying that there are people experiencing severe issues, but I don't believe it has anything to do with IS's 5-star rating system.

There are a lot of assumptions going on here. Those IP's do not belong to your account since they aren't static so every time your session is reset you lose the IP and it's given to someone else. So unless you work in the field on these systems (I don't) it may be best not to quickly assume these opinions as true.

A little common sense and some thought and you will see that it's not as cut and dry as a lot posting here like to make it out to be.

BTW I have issues with my account as well, but I'm not going to stupidly call out something I know next to nothing about.

Why are you looking at the IP addresses? They are irrelevant. Look at the times of connections and overlapping connections. We all know that IPs change.

One other interesting thing is how accounts are advertised as 'one concurrent connection only', when they aren't.

As we manage our own capacity, we choose the amount of concurrent connections allowed on our accounts

With answers like these, you just solidify what everyone is saying. You not clearing anything up, you not setting the record straight, your post basically reads like that from a bot and you just constantly repeat the same stuff over and over instead of answering questions pertaining to concerns individually.

I will re-iterate, if you want to put people at ease, how about providing more factual detailed information.

So now you admit that YOU decide when more people can connect to a account I purchased for myself alone?

That's begs the question, WHY are you increasing the amount of people that can connect to my account?

We have answered all the pending questions up until this point.

My post recaps these questions.

Unfortunately, you are now recycling your opinions and basically taking over the thread.

^^^^^ This. Smoking gun. Not so easy to explain away.

In fact you just released a VERY important piece of information. Something you have been denying all along, and now suddenly you are done answering questions?

As PostmanPot pointed out, it's the fact that these connections run concurrently. If you were to reset your connection and obtain a new IP address, then your old IP address would no longer be used on your account, no? Furthermore, if there were only one connection on your account, and you were to get a new IP address, the accumulated connection time between these two accounts would add up to no more than 24 hours, right? Instead, we are seeing multiple IP addresses, each coming from vastly different geographic locations, logging 24 hours of connectivity each, day after day, on a single account.

As we manage our own capacity, we choose the amount of concurrent connections allowed on our accounts

Really? Because that's not what you advertise... http://imgur.com/Sz5dAu6

Please answer PostmanPot's question.. If you "choose" to allow concurrent connections on an account, would all those logged into that account get full speed?

If you "choose" to allow concurrent connections on an account, would all those logged into that account get full speed?

That's the whole point, if the account is limited to say 10mb on their side. You will have multiple concurrent connections contending for bandwidth e.g. 2 connections getting 5mb each (obviously this is for demo purposes only as it doesnt include overhead and additional shaping etc.). And all of this going down, you thinking to yourself that the shaper is shaping you to hell and back right now :)

Stopped reading after that
