OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I have a feeling connection.co.za is another "connection sharing" outfit.
Will pass, thanks.

Wingnut claims it's legit. I have yet to sign up for one of those accounts. I'm too scared to approach any big ISP atm :( I don't trust Afrihost. A beautiful website doesn't necessarily mean great things. I'm mentally scarred. It will take a long time to heal.

Hi Chelseaboy,

Thanks!
Are you using this connection from IC as your primary connection right now?
I've seen the pricing when they came out, but didn't know what it would be like.
Any idea which ISP they connect to on their backbone?

No, still on my OW account. It's in the process of being cancelled. I'm currently looking for a reliable and honest ISP. I don't know about Afrihost :( I'm thinking about going back to MWEB now.

And Axxess? I'd rather have that or AH than OW, Mweb or WA.

What's wrong with MWEB now? My average data consumption per month is around 150gb. As long as I stay below 200gb, I should be ok. MWEB was the first ISP to break my net virginity. I will never forget it. I will always cherish it. It's like going back to your first childhood sweetheart :)

Problem for me is that they still don't want to say what the thresholds is. They still pussyfoot around it by saying approx or estimate. So its not really 150 as we know 150 as it could very well be 120, but they call it 150.

Gone are the days when OW encourage you to download, bragging about not throttling & having unshaped weekends. The straw that broke the camels back was Leoni telling me my account works fine when it was clearly heavy handed shaping in place & the fact that she asked me to upgrade me account. Makes one think, their plan was to pounce on Mweb's screw ups & do a bait & switch move to get more money by upgrading accounts.

Uhhh, ok :( What about AH? Heard its shaping policy is ugly.

I thought Leon was a old grey-haired dude.

Hey no one is telling not to go to where you want to go. I'm just saying how I feel about it. AH normal is shaped where AH Business is not. HOWEVER you might experience some throughput issues if you are in CT and some areas in the North because of the said IPC upgrades. I have however never had any issues, but then again I'm in PTA.

Yep, It was pretty obvious that they unethically exploited the great fall of MWEB last year. I'm so ashamed of the fact that I fell for it :(

LOL.

Koosi, jy's baie snaaks, maar nou ja...

1) No, I am not an OW employee
2) I do use OW during the day

I've never experienced any crap performance like the majority of you lot here in all the years since I've been a subscriber. I've been streaming Twitch (2x High quality streams simultaneously) no issues. I did some Steam updates a while ago, full line speed. Downloaded via NNTP, full line speed. Downloaded a couple of torrents as well, guess what... full line speed as well, all thanks to this new unshaped uncapped trial account. And all of these downloads took place during office hours.

Before I had the trial account (let's say the last 1.5 months), I couldn't stream as much, but I could still download, obviously not full line speed but I could at least do more than all of you combined here could do. I can always browse, can use gmail etc. But like I always say, I guess I'm one of the few who never have any issues. My original gold account has served me well for the past 5.5 years (the other 2 years I only had a capped account before I went gold).

I feel sorry for those that haven't had a pleasant experience, I hope you find what you're looking for at a different ISP.

Good for you. And I don't mean that in a facetious way.. You're really lucky to have an account that has remained unaffected by all the drama in this thread.

Out of interest, is the performance of your account all that matters to you? Is support not an area of concern? Because if your account stops performing this well, what are you going to do? You're going to be left with no performance and no support. You may have been an openweb customer for many years now, and I agree that their performance was simply top notch, but things have changed drastically in the past few months.

Performance aside, I would be an unhappy customer just from reading this thread alone. Just as things started going belly up, MrBeep decided to take a vacation. 6 weeks? later and he's still not back! One helluva vacation wouldn't you say? Amazingly, just when people started asking questions, this thread was no longer stickied. Does this not concern you?

I find it awfully suspicious.. I also find it suspicious that openweb, who were once the most vocal isp on mybb, have suddenly gone silent. I mean, if these allegations were untrue, surely such an open company would have no problem in dismissing them. Instead, we've been forced to draw our own conclusions, based on the evidence we have gathered ourselves.

Personally, I don't see how anyone can be a happy openweb customer whilst being fully aware of the abysmal service received by others. You're pretty much saying that you couldn't care less about their business practices, so long as you get what you pay for. You can continue to enjoy your account in complete bliss, but one day you may just realize that you are not exempt from their lies and poor support.

It works on my box, so wtf is your problem™

Well Mweb are just as shady anyway. My neighbour had his account cancelled after being labelled an abuser with 50G data per month, my other neighbour down the road pushes 250-300G data per month with no warning from Mweb.

Which one has an active dstv subscription?

I hate the feeling of uncertainty and insecurity. I want a solid, reliable and honest ISP. I'm really not sure about AH :( Is Derek Hershaw leaving MWEB soon?

I myself am uncertain. I guess there's only one way to find out... move until you find a decent ISP, so it looks like AH is my next stop.
