OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

A quick heads up,

This week is patch week. Microsoft and Apple have launched a series of updates which will add excess load onto the network.

This might result in increased shaping.

We believe these should settle by the weekend.

Does a non-local ESR really mean you are not connected to it? Go do an IP trace on your assigned IP. You can do this here:http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/

Sometimes it tracks your location as being a long way from where you actually are. I have seen mine in various places, including Stellenbosch. Would I not use a different ESR if that were the case? Mmmm?

I cannot comment until I have had a look at the account.

However, if the OP is using an account that does not log usage stats, he will see a variety of different sessions and connections on the third party monitoring tools.

If the OP wishes to have accurate details logged, we will transfer him to a realm that supports this.

Please answer once you've gotten to the bottom of it? Assuming OP wants to PM you, instead of continuing openly in this thread for other concerned parties to see.

The OP is not querying usage stats, they are querying two logins with the same @openweb.co.za account from two different locations.

Please explain?

This falls part of the usage stats. A session is used in order to calculate usage stats.

We do not log usage stats and accurate session info by default. This needs to be requested.

In the near future, we will enable users to toggle this from the Client Panel and during signup, but in the meantime we are activating it manually.

I understand what a session is.

Why are there two active/incomplete sessions, from two different locations, dialled/connected two days apart, with the same @openweb.co.za account?

Please provide an explanation for this, not for usage stats.

Is the OP using a 3rd party tool to check this? Or is he using the OpenWeb Control panel as requested?

OP is using an account of which information is attainable from the IS user stats portal. It shows that there are two [email protected] active sessions/logins from different locations, the usage is not important.

As a result, several forumites have expressed concern, and presumably other lurkers.

Is the IS user stats page wrong about the two [email protected] active sessions/logins from different locations?

Im afraid I cannot answer this with a a yes or no until I receive the username from the OP.

Once I receive the username I will check if this is:

1. Due to session and usage stats not being logged for the account, which is the most likely scenario
2. Someone is using his account, upon which the password will be changed
3. There is something else at play.

Unfortunately, by you repeating the same question for the rest of the day will constitute spam, which we cannot allow on this feedback thread.

If you don't want your thread 'spammed', perhaps answer questions upfront when your customers are concerned, instead of beating around the bush with non-answers that lead to the 'spam' you are against.

1. I doubt it
2. Don't these accounts have a single concurrent connection?
3. Perhaps a system error where the account was issued twice, like your explanation last time this was raised? Which would then nullify 2. in some cases where accounts have two concurrent logins
4. ???

All in all, I think more people need to check their accounts - http://users.isdsl.net/index.php.

I have answered this question on numerous occasions since you posted it.

You however do not seem to understand what I am saying.

Checking on a tool other than an OpenWeb one will not provide you with accurate information where an OpenWeb realm is concerned. You may see many connections / sessions here, sometimes up to 4 or 5.

It does however seem, again, that you are trying to prove a point. I am not sure what the point is, but it is becoming quite repetitive.

Unless we shape it, it will drain the entire network.

We will be placing priority on these after 18:00 tonight to assist the folks wishing to download their updates.

Shaping windows updates to 18KB does seem a bit extreme.

My humblest apologies, however this is the first time you've mentioned specifically this.

What are the possible explanations for 2 to up to 4/5 sessions with the same OpenWeb username when checking the IS user stats page?

Where is the error occurring? Is it wrong?

Waiting to hear from the OP.
