OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I have asked one of the senior guys to comment, Leon is not available currently:

In the past we used to randomly assign account names, my favourite was martinlut@xxx. With the introduction of the new provisioning systems, we stopped doing this (I suppose us engineers also ran out of names to assign and it caused confusion). The system now generates random numbers and letters.

Then why did I have somebody else's name (over and over and over and over and over and over) instead of a login account sporting my own name like every other ISP I've ever used?

That alone puts too much doubt in my mind, and if I was OW, I would stop this practice immediately, which would drop the hostility instantly.

Due to the Microsoft and Apple updates, the network is alot busier which will result in more shaping

It seems after hours has been throttled to just below half of the normal speeds this evening again...

You mean like I have now? And my account works fine most of the time. In fact, I had an old account with my own name, but had it changed when I ran into some problems (alternative routing). That doesn't tie in with your concerns, does it?

Did you ever bring this up before? Whose name did you have? Was it a name like [email protected] or was it a seemingly randomly generated set of letters and numbers (like I have now)?

Youtube suckin here by me..... sigh. Cant even get some online gaming done ..... I guess they will give a new account again.. this will be account number 8 lol:whistle:

That's their excuse for poor performance. I've never had "routing" problems with any other ISP's and always had just one account.

They were people's names.

I am just talking about my personal experience. I was on the creme de la creme gold original 4mb @ R738ish (memory) but after six accounts had "routing" problems, I was outa there.

I am sorry your experience has sucked. The alternative routing fixed things for me and I have been using the same account for some time now.

But IF they were sharing the accounts, then using actual names of one customer for their sharing partner would have been just too stupid to even consider as a possibility, surely.

My theory is they not sharing but recycling accounts, because they claim they don't use the star rating, the account dies as the star drops, then you get a new one.

I'm much happier now hearing they're using numbers instead of names now.

Had my account for 4 months. Used almost 3.5TB on it in this time. So I doubt this is the case.

Then I can't see any reason why my experience was so crap, and also is one of the busiest threads out there but are at the bottom of the list in subscriber numbers (according to the poll results a while back), which isn't a good sign (no news is good news), which has made me loose faith in OW uncapped.

Freedom capped unshaped a different story. My own name in the account and no issues whatsoever.

I have been with Openweb for about a month now and can only praise them.

Look, we had our difficulties at first, but it turned out it was my fault in the end,

*blush*

I moved from Afrihost, I had to adjust to the new shaping rules of use as much as you want after 6 but chill during the day because when I was with Afrihost I used to use a rate limiter and let it run all day at a low rate. When I first moved to OW using any sort of download protocol during the day made my connection unusable, even on Gold Orange. Maybe it's the way you use the line? I recall MrBEEP saying that real time protocols are never shaped unless you have excessive bandwidth over them or have other non real time services running.

Either way my time with OW is fantastic. I might give Axxess Business a chance soon because it's slightly cheaper than what I currently pay.

When your whatsapps dont go through you must know how bad you are being shaped almost feels like throttling. I was about to throw the router at the wall due to frustration even tho that will get me nowhere.
