OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Hi HookX87,

This is correct.

We are still trialing it. Your feedback will be invaluable.

Guess I'll PM you tomorrow as I only mailed around twelve today..

So, just to get everything straight..

The account will be completely uncapped, unshaped all ours of the day and only have one concurrent user?

lol at Openweb rep.

You have the login details in the thread. Just look up in your Excel sheet how many users you've allocated it to.

Each account is allocated to only 1 x user.

We cannot look into an account unless the account holder contacts us directly and answer some security questions.

Once done, we will be able to investigate the problem.

So how many people have the username "[email protected]"?

Funny thing. Two of my colleagues who have been experiencing really crappy performance the last while were (they have separate accounts) both given this same username yesterday. They're currently both trying to use it. Sounds a bit weird.

I was assigned this username some time ago. I was given different username later on because this username was performing well at night and sometimes on weekends, but during working hours I couldn't even open gmail. AFAIK, it used to be 2mb account, which was later upgraded to 4mb

Are you still on this username? If so, please PM me your details so that I can see what the problem is.

Usernames do go into a recycling pool for re-use, therefore it will be possible that you could have used this name in the past. However, if you and another client is assigned the same username right now, there is a problem that needs to be investigated.

Very secure :erm:

Great, received the account from Leon..

Will be on leave the whole of next week so will be able to see daytime performance for myself..

Thanks!

*Will provide feedback.

Considering that from what I've seen (personally and from people here) the generic password is 1122, one could verrrrrrry easily just cycle through that "pool" to see what connects. I really don't know who in the company could have possibly thought recycling usernames (and ones not based on the actual person >_>) was a good idea.

Wish we did get a MyBB article about this, but the forces at work here seem willing to sweep this under the rug as well. Or at least that's what I get from seeing all the most controversial feedback threads suddenly unstickied. Distinct feeling some ISPs suddenly want to hide their worts.

Would be nice though, we got an article about the iBurst fiasco (which I was terrifyingly quoted in) and the Mweb one, why not this almost bar dropping one?

Login Details for my account on 01 April:

Session Details for.jpg

In April Ive been uploading to OneDrive - 100GB to do in total.

Wow. Got my new "Special" account earlier today. Speed was better during the day. Tonight however, NNTP speed ranges between 4B/s and 4 KB/s. I miss my dialup account i had with ICON in 1997. I was faster than what i get now on a GOLD account with OpenWeb. I am sorry I did not cancel my account earlier in the week, as I will have to live with this for another 2 months.

Makes me think of the 0800 "black dog" list days... LOL.

@cableguy
Could you kindly answer my question? I know that responding might take some effort since you cannot ask for account details nor reply by denying account sharing. But I still hope to get an answer.

...due to all the account changes, and constant addition and removal of limited account types:
How do I know (i.e. to regard as true beyond doubt) that the account type I bought is actually the account type I currently have?...

On a separate note, why would you recycle usernames? Please tell me you haven't exhausted over 56 billion usernames. That is the number of 7-character usernames that start with a letter.
...Usernames do go into a recycling pool for re-use...

It is not ideal but was built into the current system we are using (which in itself is a bit dated). However, the usernames are quite random to say the least. Once an account username is grabbed from the pool, the password is changed by the system.

We are working on this with the new CP in development. We will continue assigning random usernames, making the username as mixed as the password.

Surely purchasers of capacity not accounts would not have to recycle account usernames?

To Cableguy:
No, I'm not on this username anymore.
Is my English so unclear?
I was assigned a new username because claas6 was performing terribly.

To Everyone:
One thing I can say for sure is, when I was using claas6, I was not the only one who was using that username.
I checked via IS user stats ( it was not yet disabled for OW users) AND through Telkom.

When a user is moved to another username, the profile they have purchased is attached to the username along with the necessary routing changes. Do you have access to the CP? This too should contain your full product description.

The current system, written quite a few years ago re-uses usernames as it was an easy way to pre-load usernames into a pool, which would then be ready for instant activation. Our CP did not latch into an API in the past, therefore available usernames were loaded onto the system, and could be instantly assigned when a client orders with a credit card.

Now of course, we link into the core systems directly, which renders this an old way of doing things, and will be done away with when the new CP launches.

I actually believe the new system will allow clients who order certain products to actually choose their username during signup, but this would need to be confirmed.

I am beginning to worry... How come my password that would have been "changed by the system" is the exact one mentioned a few threads back...? These answers are contradicting one another.
