OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I see your latency on local is very high. This is more likely the problem.

It should be no more than 79ms max.

Please switch off your router for 30 minutes so that your Telkom session can reset, then back on and try again.

Also please PM me the detail so that I can test the account from my side.

Thanks for the concern but it seems to be running fine now.

I did email [email protected] the other day asking for my account to be changed in a bid to improve my weekday speeds (business hours) as my internet becomes unusable, but I was told that changes cannot be done to accounts already in cancellation. I was hoping that something could be done to change my mind but I guess not.

I got my cancellation in before the 25th of this month and I will not risk having to stay until the end of June for the slight chance that an improvement will actually be made. I'd rather just cut my losses and be gone at the end of May.

How are other accounts performing? Like a free Afrihost or WebAfrica 1GB account.

What's your logon history showing? http://userstats.adsl.saix.net

Ok, so looking at my sessions this is what I can see.

If you look at the sessions you'll notice that at any given time there's two active ip addresses coming from vastly different geographic locations.

See here: http://imgur.com/F81rPOZ

Here's a list of all the ip's, and their locations, that have connected to my account over the past few months:

196.210.114.197 Bellville, Western Cape
196.215.187.59 Edenvale, Gauteng
196.210.113.82 Paarl, Western Cape

Can Openweb please look into what's wrong with their network and the newly released Elder Scrolls Online? It keeps disconnecting me at random and it has to be Openweb-related because it doesn't happen on my Mweb account.

The ports for the game are as follows, if you wish to investigate them:

TCP / UDP Ports 24100 through 24131
TCP / UDP Ports 24500 through 24507

Hi Zewp,

Can you please email [email protected] with your ADSL details so that we can test the account for you.

We can also try changing you to the MTN network to see if this helps

International is DOG SLOW, and my iPad complains it cannot see the App Store. Had to turn on LTE for it to install/update.

International working at full speed here.
New GoT distro releases tomorrow. Prepare yourselves.

Hi there,
Which OW package are you on? Gold?... and some trace-routes?

4MB Titan Uncapped: bang on 7am - NNTP running at less than 50kb on a public holiday again. Normal browsing fair but only when nothing else running, PDF/ZIP downloads not much faster that NNTP, again when nothing else is running.
Was hoping to update my phone's firmware today using this account (approx 500-700MB d/l in total) but looks nigh impossible with this shaping. Two days left...

Guess I'll be using my other account again today.

Yeah first thing that comes to mind is standard IS star based uncapped accounts. They shape on a schedule and does not take public holidays into account. Openweb would abviously deny this but yeah the facts speak for itself.

I can actually see into the future and tell you that Thursday morning @ 7AM you will be shaped again just like today. Its IS uncapped shaping.

By that logic all star based IS accounts are also unshaped on weekends?

Ok thought it will be better on public holiday.Seems not. Here is the results. Looks like I am cancelling tomorrow. I use about 90GB a month so this aint worth the effort.

0.21 Mbps down 0.3 Mbps up

I see this is an international speedtest result.

Due to the high latencies, we do not use international speedtests for measurement.

Please can you perform a local one. If the results are still poor, please drop me a PM. I would like to test the account for you

Yes, quite correct - weekends and public holidays = full speed - even during business days/hours HTTP/S - MAIL etc. runs at full speed from IS - NNTP/P2P are limited down to half speed depending on network load.

This is just a std. IS-Uncapped account for the rascals @ home
This acc. is down to a 2 star rating, but all protocols runs full speed.

Same old story. OpenWeb might as well call their service a night owl package instead of whatever gold package they advertise. During the day we have to beg for leftover scraps of data. Every time I complain I get a new account, which works for maybe a day, and the back to normal. The number of public holidays recently just highlights the pathetic service these guys offer.

4Mbps Gold Uncapped account, downloading at max 20 KB/s. You can't honestly tell me the network is more strained now than yesterday, or than it will be tomorrow. This is ridiculous.

They're going to blame it on GoT today... Which will buy them some time to think of an excuse for Thursday.

According to cableguy, people stay at home on public holidays and download.. Amazingly, they don't seem to do that on the weekend.

Max line speeds here... full steam ahead at 8mbs :)

Would be sad having to be stuck on 20 KB/s on this lovely day...
