OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Well just as some more info. I have phoned this morning and they said they will recreate my account. They did that and it is still a problem. I have no improvement whatsoever.

Hehe NO surprise there.... Leon did reset the "core" in my case... browsing speed was back to normal even during the day! BUT BUT there was no and I mean NO p2p priority even after hours 5kb/s (after KEOMA himself told me in an email that unshaped uncapped treats ALL protocols the same) funny that....

Anyways, once again I emailed Leon and Zelda, got an email back " I have moved you back to the old profile " - after hours is fine on all protocols BUT daytime is useless as **** on ALL protocols.

I have submitted my cancellation request today :D and it felt great! Going to try out Crystalweb's Premium business uncapped and see how that goes.
 
I had to admit, during the day, I also have horrible browsing speeds but normally what I do is change my account over to 1 of a few "FREE 1GB" type accounts that I have and use that till I change over and get full 2MB speeds from OpenWeb.
I had a 10MB line, then 4MB line, I basically downgraded my speeds because I never got my full speeds with OpenWeb.
Still, when I have issues, I normally get sorted out super fast (via using the support e-mail address)

I feel the same...

My gold uncapped account been doing the same and they gave me the same bull about shaping and about the world doing windows updates... so if my account is shapped , why didnt it affect me the first few months of use?
Im thinking that im gonna jump ship.



I am having a terrible experience with Openweb on the Gold Uncapped Unshaped account.

I am getting shaped to an unusable state during work hours (8 - 5) and last night between 9 - 11pm I also got shaped to something unusable. I cannot even open google during these times. What does really upset me is when I go during these times to speedtest.net it is fully unshaped and I get full line speed of 10mb Down.

I have several times now tried to address the issue through the call centre but a technician never gets back to me. It is really shocking service currently.

Can anyone advise any other ISP?

Please keep us updated on crystalweb's performance. My account has also now been fully reset and I can browse during the day. So I wonder if this will last.
 
Telkom line dead

My Telkom line was completely dead for a couple of hours yesterday (no dialing tone), and since then my maximum download speed on a 2 Mbit line has dropped from the usual 220KB/s down to 197 KB/s.

Not a big deal, but I really miss that extra 23 KB/s on a slow line like this. :)

My line sync speed in the router UI is still the usual 2048 kbps.

Any idea why this happens or how to fix it?

Leave your router off for 15 mins to try and obtain a new IP address, maybe that'll help.
 
Try another ISP account.

Still the same with another ISP (free account).

I suspect my downstream SNR Margin is too low. It's 11, whereas it was usually around 30 before.

From what I understand a SNR-M of 11 is the minimum value for a stable sync rate. But this is not my field, so I'm not sure :)
 
Telkom just did a port reset but it didn't solve the problem.

The consultant said my line was out of service yesterday due to theft of phone cables.

So hopefully they'll restore it to full capacity tomorrow or so.

Well, P2P dead for me last few days, if this trend continues i will be moving on, surely a "windows update" CANNOT cripple an ISP like this for 5 days
 
what game?

Majority COD games use P2P hosting, just gooi a google to see what game uses what im sure you can find answer.

Over weekend I couldn't even connect to a CS:GO competitive match, recieved a 24 hour ban as result

Gaming on xbox live has been impossible. What type of traffic does xbox live use? P2P?

Servers were DDoS'd this weekend. This may of been the reason you couldn't connect as the server and game coordinators are on different nodes. It seems everything on IS and TI were having issues yet MTN and MWeb clients were unaffected.
 
I have been with OW for more than 5 years now but its time for me to move on. Reasons I am cancelling with them:

- Shaping traffic so severely that you cant even browse during the day.
- Taking days to respond to a ticket or not responding at all.
- Refusing to believe that the problem lies with the account and not my phone line even after testing with 2 other ISPs

If anyone has any suggestions on who else I can try out, please let me know. I need an uncapped account for general downloading and gaming.
 
Just signed up for a 4mb uncapped account and the speeds are really bad :( i emailed them and they said please start your router for 30 min, did that .....still nothing o and the promised full unshaped from 00:00 to 07:00 lies.....getting shaped so hard.

well cancelling tomorrow Afrihost is the way to go.....stay away from these R200.00 accounts
 
I agree . Im getting the same BS... I switch to my backup account and everything works 100%. change back to my openweb gold uncapped leon edtion account and its like dialup.... cant play online games and cant get good download speeds....
Im looking for another ISP also... I can only be patient so long and i work in the customer service industry...And i aint getting any with OW.

Yip, also told me to phone Telkom to test line, well that is BS right there, other accounts litterly flying, even tested with a friends Ti account and things were like butter on a hot durban day.

So ye, I'm generally a guy with a lot of patience, but OMG this is getting too much.

I will give them till Thursday to A) make a statement of some sorts B) rectify the situation I have

I've been with OW for about 3 years, and overall have been very happy with little or no issues, last two weeks however have been a disaster.
 
I'm still running an original gold uncapped unshaped account. Full line speed 24/7 on any protocol, no matter what the time of the day. Been a subscriber for 8 years now, don't see myself leaving for another ISP any time soon :)

With that said, it looks like I'm the only positive OW subscriber out there :(
