OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

If you read back, you'll see it's sill the same. Plenty other threads too, HelloPeter, etc.

Unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks? Care to tell, MrBeep?

I doubt Mr Boep will reply here, he made a cameo apearance to test the waters on making a return to MyBB.
Didn't even take 2 days and he tucked his tail between his legs and ran after DJ... turned the heat up.

How do I go about cancelling with OW? I used to get excellent speeds and never had a problem but it all went downhill this past month.

Their website doesn't mention anything about cancelling

Block their debit order.

8 TERMINATION OF USE AND DOWNGRADES OF THE SERVICE BY THE USER

The user may terminate the use of the service by giving written notice to OpenISP at [email protected] or Fax to 086 691 2166 as follows:

8.1 One (1) calendar months’ notice for all users making use of debit/credit order payment facilities, given before the 25th day of the month before the last month for the provision of the service (e.g. if the user wishes the use of the service to terminate at the end of April, notice of termination must be given before 25 March). Users may not downgrade their ADSL account/s during/for the one (1) calendar months’ notice period. Where proper notice is given in time, OpenISP will issue, by email, a cancellation reference number. Only once a cancellation reference number has been issued will the user’s account be deemed to be cancelled.

Bad advice:

They will just hand you over to ITC and get you blacklisted.

Cancel before the 25th and wait the 30 days that you agreed to.

Yeah, I know about ITC :) But these people operate a very dodgy business, highly unlikely they would go through the effort.

I don't think it's too much of a mission to get the ITC process started.

A few years ago I had a Goodfellas subscription, and maybe used them once or twice in 2 years, when my credit card expired, I figured, instead of just giving them notice, I just didn't update my details with them and left it at that. When I traded my car in for another, the finance guys says, wait, I can't move forward with the finance application because I have an ITC judgement for R150 (can't buy a R300000 car because of R150), and had to phone the buggers and pay the money "owed". Didn't take long but was very inconvenient.

So, is it worth it? I know it sux paying for a service and getting nothing, but at the end of the day, one just has to chalk it down to a lesson learned situation, and move on.

Just saying :)

I did the e-mail route and my cancellation was swift.
I've been away from these PRICKS for a month and I've been using Afrihost and to be honest, I've only spent R250 (using the Afrihost+ Double DSL data option) worth of data.
Feel sorry for anyone using OpenWeb and/or MWEB.

Nobody with half a brain on mybb uses openweb.

Go to any other ISP.

I am using the OpenWeb Capped account and I can say I have no complaints filling or exceeding my 600GB data package every month at full speeds

The only people with half a brain around here, are people still using Uncapped.... at any ISP

No ISP can provide an Uncapped Unshaped/Unthrottled service anymore

Same here. Since moving from the uncapped to the capped account, I haven't had any issues. Speeds are always great, heck even my K/D ration in Battlefield improved some :-)

They can. They can't sell it as a loss, so expect to pay for the service you need.

Exactly why no ISP can deliver on the Uncapped package they sell. If I pay for Uncapped Unshaped I expect to get full download speeds 24/7 no matter how much data I download. With Telscum and cANCer having the monopoly on the price they sell to the ISP's, I don't blame the ISP's either

So no, they can't

You can get pretty much close to unshaped from certain isp's.. Try crystal web - Only get shaped on downloads when the network is busy, otherwise unshaped the rest of the time..

They absolutely can, but your understanding of uncapped is incorrect. Uncapped internet is not 'eat as much as you can'.

With that mentality, I'm thrilled to not have abusers on my network, quite frankly.

+1

Or rather the AUP protects the network from abusers?
