So can you confirm that the "Platinum" traffic gets priority over the "Bronze" traffic if a telkom exchange's backhaul is congested?
Is there actually a difference in the service provided on the Telkom ADSL network for the different levels?

Does MWeb still block port 80 on the client's ip? Like they used to when they introduced those black box lock-in modems? So you couldn't host your own services etc... Perhaps not on business contracts but still on end-user contracts?

I think they do actually firewall a number of common haxxorable ports, but you can go into the web interface for your account, and disable it. A pretty good policy, I think.

Lol I KNOW man isn't it insane?!! My buddies just got 100Mbps in their apartments in the US, they pay $70 USD(they pay R470 for TV and NET) These companies are just ripping us off of everything, porn auditions.

All these price shuffling are reflecting what is going on internally. The small companies are starting to lose funds quick as people are heavily moving to MWeb(they have the most money). Who in the right mind would pay over $1,000 EURO's a month for a 10Mb line on a company with a falling reputation...might as well save those funds for a few years and build your own network. Amazing.

It's really up to companies like Cell C/MWeb/who_ever_has_cheap_stuff here to digg us out this hole.

How about someone coming out with high gig (250+), capped packages at a discounted rate per gig, that operate at full line speed? Nobody in their right mind is going to buy 10mb uncapped at these looney prices, and if uncapped is not sustainable, give us high cap.

ADSL is a best effort service. therefore no guarantee of service availability including latency, loss and delay. platinum service offers high availability, redundancy no packet loss, no delay and no latency. Guarantees up time and there are service level agreements attached to the service

Joke 1: No ISP can guarantee the quality of their bandwidth unless they control the local loop. I don't care how low an ISP's contention ratio is, it's a moot point if the Telkom exchange is congested.

Joke 2: 12 month contract? You must be kidding me. No business or consumer wants to be locked into a contract. Especially not in the telecoms industry where price and quality changes from day to day.

For the same money you can get over 900 gigs of capped bandwidth from Afrihost that will also run at 10mbps and is also unshaped/uncapped etc. The bonus of course is that when you don't need as much bandwidth you don't have to pay for it but with Openweb you have no choice but to pay the whole price each month.

One would assume it has lower contention ratios, but I would love to see providers starting to quote contention rations (which is required by the ADSL regulations). To just state platinum, gold or whatever is really of no value...kind of like saying something which you don't give details about is better than something else which you don't give details about.

The contention ratio on the 10Mbps OpenWeb Platinum account is 10:1
