Openweb introduces new uncapped, unshaped ADSL packages

Um.. What exactly is a "platinum business grade ADSL network" and how is it different from the rest of the ADSL network?

One would assume it has lower contention ratios, but I would love to see providers starting to quote contention rations (which is required by the ADSL regulations). To just state platinum, gold or whatever is really of no value...kind of like saying something which you don't give details about is better than something else which you don't give details about.
 
they a bit pricey compared with mweb ... then again nobody raves about the mweb business accounts so maybe this is a better option although the price could be better.

Jokes aside, the Mweb account is way cheaper than the Openweb one.

@Rpm, can you maybe benchmark two of those and let us know how they perform?

- Http
- Latency (basic pings)
- VOIP
- Gaming
- Torrents
- Vpn

They are quite more expensive.

At least double the price on the 10meg ones.

Perhaps uncapped plus line speed increase = greater cap between slow and fast speeds.
 
For the same money you can get over 900 gigs of capped bandwidth from Afrihost that will also run at 10mbps and is also unshaped/uncapped etc. The bonus of course is that when you don't need as much bandwidth you don't have to pay for it but with Openweb you have no choice but to pay the whole price each month.
 
Mweb 4mb business is awesome. When the seacom cable broke we never had any down time with the business accounts

Imagine how silly you will feel in 12 months time still sitting paying nearly R9000 a month for what will probably be costing more like R2000 by that time. In my view long term contracts etc. should actually cost less than prepaid/ month-to-month deals because we all know that there is no way the bandwidth will still cost the same months down the road. The providers are scoring in a double way because they fix you to a certain price now - they know that you will be paying for the next 1 or 2 years - and then the cost that they pay for the wholesale bandwidth just comes down and down and down.
What a rip-off

ADSL is a best effort service. therefore no guarantee of service availability including latency, loss and delay. platinum service offers high availability, redundancy no packet loss, no delay and no latency. Guarantees up time and there are service level agreements attached to the service

Right. And does that apply for the actual ADSL part of the network too?
I'm not convinced that ISPs are able to differentiate service levels for their individual packages beyond the IPC...
 
Another Ultimate fail by OpenWeb. These companies are committing suicide with these business strategies...these prices are simply insane! OpenWeb needs to quit and bail while they still have a positive in those bank-accounts.

the service levels get passed from IPC to ISP and they have a choice of maintaining them
 
Does MWeb still block port 80 on the client's ip? Like they used to when they introduced those black box lock-in modems? So you couldn't host your own services etc... Perhaps not on business contracts but still on end-user contracts?
