Mornings all,

So a while ago we moved over to OpenWeb to try their ADSL at work. Its R100 cheaper than Axxess or something so we decided to give it a shot. Everything was fine, got our username etc etc

BUT, a while ago we checked usage, and saw that our username had changed itself to TerryWilkinson1 or something like that. Notice anything fishy? We called them and they said its a system generated username and password, which in my opinion is BS. We want our own. We let it go for a while until this morning, we check our usage and its sitting on 4GB

Now not EVER, has the shop (Internet Cafe) gone through 4GB of data, even on the most insane day where people are talking on Skype and catch a few people downloading. Its even hard to hit if we download things.

So, go check your usernames if you with OpenWeb, its obvious that they sharing bandwidth between users - which isnt right

We have called them, hence we know that the username is "server generated" which is just BS. Someone doesnt know what potting there....

It should be stopped, surely its not right
We gonna call them again later and see what they have to say. Going through 4GB of data clearly shows that someone else is using the account

you are not the only one to whom this has happened - see

Thanks for the linkage dude
Theres something seriously fishy with these guys, Im gonna be staying away from them in the future!!!
My boss is gonna cancel the account later today when he gets back from clients

I think everybody on this forum needs to be warned not to use OpenWeb. This is the third complaint this month in this forum alone! Coincidence, I think not!

I think so. We get lots of clients in who need ISP's to go with, OpenWeb definately wont be on that list!!
Thats for all the replies guys

Gee, 4 gig in a day? And you think that's a lot?

Icafe I used to work for used to plow through at least 90 gig of data a month on average.

Never had problems with Openweb's service as a typical customer (IE non business customer). But really, at the end of the day, unless it affects your service, who cares if it's shared or not. Back in the day guys used to do this (1 x TI acc amongst like 50 people) and unless you hit your threshold really fast and your speed gets cut, it's not really a problem, and if you use less than 20 gig of data a month you should probably just go per gig anyway, SAIX shaped is much faster than any IS business package I have seen. IS is crap slow during peak hours, which is when you guys would no doubt get most of your business.

Wait Wait. 90Gig a month. A month is, on average, 30 days. so 90 / 30 = 3. 3Gig a day? Then I'd have to say yes, 4Gig a day is a lot.

Happened to me too - I actually found someone (through the IS monitoring site) else that was logged in at the other side of the country, using my 'computer generated' username and password.

Immediately stoped using OpenWeb, haven't touched them since.

How do you know that your username had changed? Where did you check and how did you know what to look for?

If the wrong username/password combo is in your router/modem, surely you wouldn't be able to connect?

If, as you claim, "OpenWeb is Bandwidth Sharing" do both parties not have to have the same username and password?

Sounds to me like you need to check a few things first before you blame.

I've been with Openweb a long time and have never experienced this before. Openweb may have a few issues but I certainly don't think they're cheats! Hell, they have too much to lose.

Hope you solve your problem. ;)

^^ QFT (Quoted for the truth) :)

Have also been with Openweb for a long time now, never had any problems whatsoever.

how do you know some oke did not come and download a 2.5 gig file off the net in your shop?

i mean do you watch everything that goes in your shop?

Your username on your router cannot be changed by the ISP and will not change itself.
Either someone hacked into your router/or a staff member or customer changed it for some odd reason.

If you had a username of say "abc" when you signed up with openweb, and thats what you put into your router, then there is no way in hell that a few days later its suddenly "cba"

Is that what you are trying to say happened?

Maybe I misunderstood something but:

I'm sure OpenWeb has the facilities to check the port numbers used for each account. Else the radius server should also have those. Then you should be able to see every freakin byte and over which adsl line it went. Not so?
