Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Yeah well I used even less on openweb and I got shaped to 8kbs during the day on my 1mbs and dont say, ahh but you have to have gold . . .

I'm not going to pay more for something that gives me worse performance than mweb at R299. In fact I've been getting better latencies on mweb than on openweb

edit: and no Im not gonna leave till I get an explanation on why I got 8kbs during the day

If you weren't on GOLD it means you were on those cheapie uncapped IS accounts which are known to be crap. You get what you pay for. I'm on GOLD and loving it.

I'm on Gold and I regularly experience the same issue as tp3to. Unfortunately no explanation has been found and I regularly have to request an account recreation and/or port reset...both of which seem to work most times, but not always.

Hello Friends,

I am currently deeply concerned about the state of the Telkom ADSL network. This week we have seen a large increase in faults logged where the blame was with the clients Telkom exchange being congested.

I would just like to post a few tell tale signs of a congested exchange:

1. The speeds drop drastically at around the same time everyday
2. Latency increases to excessive levels
3. A router reboot sometimes fixes the problem for a short time

If you experience these symptons, please contact Telkom on 0800 375 375 and go through to the DSL Technical Support department. (Do not attempt any other department, as you will be greeted by general incompetence).

Please log a fault, as the more folks whom become vocal about this problem the quicker it will be resolved.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

This might be my problem - cause mine is always a problem when everyone is home. |(after hours)

I suspected the same thing with my connection, however before calling on Telkom to have a look I signed out of my Openweb account and then onto my pre-paid WA account which worked flawlessly.

I too have been on GOLD for some time now. Cannot touch the internet during the day, not even to get e-mails or browse. Even Office Communicator can't work due to restricted bandwith/speed/whatever. In the evenings the shaping is meant to relax / be removed, yet cannot download anything until around 8pm, to 6 sharp the next morning. How is this any different from a standard uncapped? And no my exchange is not saturated, and no there are no line issues. What makes my head really hurt, is testing off a capped account, everything works fine. It's just not cricket.

I'm on 1mb Gold Plus and have to use my 3G during the day.

What are you talking about noob?

Lets see...

Groupie:A groupie is a person whose devotion to a person (usually a celebrity, especially a rock and roll star) approaches the level of fanaticism.

In this case people come on here all the time arguing the case for mweb time and time again...You can't shoot down Openweb's products just because of a bad experience on your part and then turn around and say how Mweb is so Great in no uncertain terms.

Clear Enough?

I find it weird that people leave mweb,or any isp only to compare it to there previous Isp.No one is holding a gun to your head.If you dont like Openweb or any Isp just move on,but to compare any two products whether capped or uncapped is an unfair generalism.Product A will work for Joe but that doesnt mean necessarily it will work for "Sue".There is different factors to consider,I know we are all frustated and only see the monetary value of said products but Did you do the necessary due diligence before getting your account with Openweb.

1.Get a test account. Before you buy a car you take it for a test drive? Why not Email Keoma before making your choice.

2.Ask for Referals /Opinions.I have seen guys buy an account only to regret buying it.Will you buy a car without getting a second opinion from someone who knows more than you do about that type of car ?

3.Do you have a backup plan if it doesnt work for you? Whats your plan B? if your new car breaks down for whatever reason...your insurance is your Plan B,they will hook you up with a Rental Car.

I suggest you get your eyes checked. How exactly are Wasp_21 and the rest of us singing Mweb's praises? We haven't even mentioned them so refrain from lumping us all into the "perpetual moaner/MWeb agent" category, mkay?

I've been with Openweb for a while now. The change from my previous ISP was a result of exactly the same issue starting on their networks as what myself and quite a few others in this thread/section are experiencing with our OW accounts lately, i.e. inexplicable performance issues

To answer your points:
1) I've had a test account and a subsequent number of trouble free months with OW, hence my annoyance at the performance over the last 3 or so months.

2) This board provides an overwhelming support for Openweb as a choice for uncapped internet. Unfortunately it seems as though the basis of this support is waning.

3) My backup plan consists of re-evaluating my choice ISP provider if all attempts to resolve my issues fail.

EDIT: Look at that...5:00pm on the dot and NNTP went from 2kb/s to 50kb/s instantly and HTTP is much better Mind you that's still less than half of what I should get on my 1mb line. Just switched over to my prepaid WA account and hey presto! Full speed! Something is not right with these OW accounts. Plain and simple.

We have tried Keoma...over and over again. You told me the accounts were running at full speed on your side and referred me back to it being a Telkom issue which as I've said before over the last few months is impossible since my pre-paid account with another ISP works 100%. The only thing that worked the previous occassion was an "account recreation" as you called it. That lasted for about a month and half before reverting back to the issue myself and others have described in this thread multiple times.

Hi Iwojima,

If your problem is not resolved, we will investigate until it is! Please drop me a mail so that we can take this forward.

MrBeep or anybody that may know, what is the difference here between "Uncapped, Unshaped 4096" and "Monthly Unshaped 4096" ?

From the Openweb site:

Choose from any of:

Uncapped, Unshaped 384k - R689
Uncapped, Unshaped 512k - R919
Uncapped, Unshaped 4096k - R2899
Uncapped, Unshaped UP TO 10Mbps - R8499

Monthly Unshaped 4096k - R2299
