Hi Keoma

Last month the downloads were fine but since the new "Gold" accounts for June my downloads are very slow and erratic.

Hi Grand Past Master

You are not the only one...something has gone horribly wrong with gold accounts. Usenet for me is crawling...last month I got much better speeds than this. I think it's a general problem if more than one person is experiencing this.

Proff

Mine is not so erratic, but it has hit the famous brick wall at 28k/s.

Skipped through thread. Didn't see this mentioned though. When I connect, I too get this limit- this after hours too. I'm also on 384k Gold (via debit order).

Is this an OW issue or upstream?

Exactly, that is what i am getting as well, since Saturday... 28k/s :( This has happened once before but sorted itself out within a day or so last month... And it is everything, at any hour, so something wrong...

Hey Friends,

I have logged a fault with our upstream provider. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Hi BrendanMc

I would also like to know...for R200.00 more I don't think this is worth it. Something is wrong with these accounts - what are you guys getting on http and usenet?

I am with Mweb via Openweb.

PearlJam, I see the JHB speedtest server is now hosted by Vodacom.

I'm a happy chappy with my 384k Gold Uncapped. Downloading at the speed of light off rapidshare, megaupload etc 24/7, although I'm not able to achieve this without a download manager. What I would also like to see, is my line maxed without the need for a download manager, but at this point in time it doesn't matter to me. I've nearly downloaded 10GB in 3 days on my 384k :D

So far, I don't see any real speed increase using a "gold mweb account" over a "normal mweb" account, as I'm pretty sure I'll be able to also max my line with a normal non gold account. I can't vouch for the speeds I'll get with torrents, youtube etc, but I'll pay the extra R100 for the time being. :)

All the 384k guys usually get decent line speeds. Its when you use 4MB that you suffer and get punsihed for your higher line speed.

Hi MRBeep

Is there an update on this as I am still having slow downloads - it`s been 5 days now - currently averaging between 5kb/sec and 22 kb/sec

Thanks

So when signing up for uncapped Gold do you have to pick between Mweb and Vodacom's backbone?

Not that Im aware of. I think it is only on the Mweb service, which isnt all that cracked up. No disrespect to MrBEEP and Openweb, as they do what they can. But Latency is high, line speed is better than IS accounts, but downloads are throttled all the time and seems to run on some sort of scheduling system. I haven't seen 450Kbps yet during daytime or weekends. Most i have seen was about 250kb/s and that was at 2AM.
