@MoH, with the gold account, are you experiencing less shaping and lower contention? What is your average download speed? I'm thinking of upgrading to a gold account.

Just curious.. what did he do for you guys that fixed the problem ?

Did he reset your ports ?

If so, you're lucky, because it did nothing for me. Although my speeds are a bit better today, will see how it is tonight.

Yeah he reset my port, after which I restarted my router and its been hundreds since. Pity it didn't work for you?

Is anyone using the billion 400g modem from telkom ? been having speed decrease over 5-7days and only gets fixed to normal if i do a reboot.

MrBeep said that I have line sync issues and after a port reset it still seems to be doing it, wonder if it might be the router.

Authorization errors

Any one else that cannot authenticate? Been dead since 10:00pm last night. Will mail them now, one of the downsides of not having 24 hour support...:(

Hey guys

I'm quite new to the forum, just mostly been reading but not posting:o

Anyway, this weekend I was downloading at my usual average of 38,5k/s (384K uncapped standard option), but yesterday I was dropped to 20k/s average, and today was so slow it just timed out. I sent a mail to Keoma and he sorted it out, I am back at full speed again. my friends don't understand why i wont move to mweb. Well this is why:D:D:D

Thanks Mr Beep for all your hard work, you take the pain out of the issues we have in SA with cheap uncapped.

He did the same for me :) Was very impressed.

I see now, though, that my speeds have dropped again to 1-2 kbs, but I'll contact Keoma, hopefully can sort something out :)

For some reason I've dropped from 38,5K/s to 29K/s with NZB's. Seems very unstable still, I just don't seem to have a proper connection for more than 24 hours.

Stability is currently hard to obtain with Seacom still being down. Our upstream providers are trying their very best to keep the service going normally, but snags do occur from time to time.

If your speeds are constantly slow still, then there is definitely something wrong. In that case, please drop me an email: [email protected]

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Seacom Downtime

It has been a hectic couple of days and I wanted to write a post about this earlier, but never gotten around to it. Keoma sent a email on the 7th of July ranting about the Seacom outage:

"Seacom should be held accountable for this. I am of the view that a carrier that do not have appropriate redundancy on their network should not be allowed to sell a so called 'first class service'."

This got me thinking. Everyone has been pointing towards Seacom for being down, but I would like to ask, what about assigning blame to ISP's like Mweb and IS.

Mweb particularly. They drove uncapped mainstream, signing up people and reselling, yet they are doing this based on a model that has no/or limited blending hence no/or limited failover. IS are doing the same, even more aggressively...

Now you have the smaller ISP's that simply resells. They can't provide redundancy...the bigger once simply neglected. The only guys smiling atm is the people that sit on pure SAIX and they have out priced themselves/ or not offering uncapped at all.

One can only hope that the ISP's will learn and will instead start blending Eassy into the mix, to drive cost down and redundancy up.

One of the reasons it took so long to get Seacom into the mix was that no one was geared to tapping from two sources, hopefully with lessons learned, their architecture is of such that they can simply hookup a third source...and bring the benefits to end users sooner rather than later.

As for his rant about IP Connect cost, Keoma, you are preaching to the converted!

Hi MrBEEP, my post was not aimed at negativity towards OpenWeb in any way, just want to make that clear, you guys really go out of your way for us! This Seacom debacle will keep affecting us till they pull finger and sort it out. Was just wondering if it was the seacom issue thats causing my connection to be fast then slow within 24 to 48 hours. I think your finger will start getting sore from all the port resetting you do for me!! And I appreciate it big time :D

I'll pop you a mail, if you could just check to see if the problem is a biggie or a smallie....thanks!

Can any of you guys connect to a standard 4Mb uncapped account? It definitely the isp and not the line because I can connect to telkom.

Why don't you guys ever mention which backbone your account is using??

Hey Guys/MrBEEP

Looking at getting one of the uncapped business packages from Openweb for our office.

Which would you recommend between these and why??

Gold Uncapped 4mb (Unshaped) - R2299
Platinum Uncapped 4mb (Shaped) - R2699
Platinum Uncapped 4mb (Unshaped) - R2899
Vodacom Business Platinum Uncapped 4mb - R2699

We do a bit of downloading, but uptime is also very important.
So what speeds can we expect from these different packages during daytime/after hours use?
I guess I just want to gauge user experience before making a choice.
