Hi All

Can anyone who is currently using a VB Gold account tell me what the performance is like? Especially during the day... this is at the back of me wanting to use it for video conferencing during the day.

i just signed up for the capped R49/gig option, and selected payment via credit card (to get the account working by tonight) and there seems to have been a problem as i received the message

Stay away from using ADSL for video conferencing. We have 5 sites that we initially tried using single lines and multiple isp's to using 4 bonded lines through Vox but we battle to sustain even a 256k call where as between Cape Town and Joburg we can happily have a 2mb HD call over diginet.

Hi ChrisJ, my thinking was that if the contention ratio on the Gold accounts is low and there's adequate bandwidth capacity allocated on the network it may be OK, I do hear what you are saying though. Are you using a Gold acc at the moment? What is the performance like in general?

I use Gold on the IS network.... 99% of the time it's fine. Never had any issues on any given protocol. Just today is one of those 1% of the time days...

I use Gold on Vodacom at home. We tried every possible ISP including all the business uncapped products but in the end the problem comes down to ADSL being a best effort service. The main problem we have with ADSL for VC is the small drops in speed you get every now and again, these force the Polycom units to drop the speed. Which make of VC kit are you using?

Don't worry MrBEEP, your support staff are onto it. Had to recharge due to the time out.
 
Everything seems to be great on my OW Gold account 4MB apart from youtube, it seems to be extremely inconsistent and I can't seem to get a video to load during the day!

Hmmm, that does not sound good. Why would they throttle youtube during the day? Does it not fall under http traffic?

Ya, that's what I would think as well. It would be nice to get some clarification from Mr.Beep?
 
Std uncapped account 384k... gmail\hotmail errors out, or once in, I'm unable to open any mail. D/ling is not existend. No issues opening local sites however. Now even my iphone is timing out connecting to gmail. :whistle:

Almost whish I was back in the US where I have a 40Mb line for the past 8 months and only had 1 issue for 5 hours once :love:

For which backbone? I.S , VB or Neology?
 
How badly is your R318 package shaped? If at all... Because you are on a shaped package.

You mentioned a bandwidth upgrade that took place last night...can you provide feedback on how that went, things are still very slow an inconsistent on my 4MB account (VB network).
