Use news server trials if you don't mind the extra work and don't want to pay a cent... thats what I do... PM me for me info on sites if you'd like...

So I decided to update my BC2 for a change to check out the new maps, and I was surprised to see my in game latency at 290-300. I decided to do a tracert and this is what I found:

Pinging games.saix.net [196.43.22.222] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 196.43.22.222: bytes=32 time=224ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.43.22.222: bytes=32 time=223ms TTL=241

Reply from 196.43.22.222: bytes=32 time=224ms TTL=241

Ping statistics for 196.43.22.222:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 223ms, Maximum = 224ms, Average = 223ms

Anyone else also getting that on the VB network ? I did speed test both locally and internationally and they were off the charts, plus my local latency to JHB according to speed test is 22ms, and when I trace route games.saix.net earlier today I also got 22ms.
So either something is haywire at Telkom or VB.

I hope this is only temporary :(

BTW there is nothing like watching a youtube vid at 1080p full screen :D

EDIT: Just tested with my Afrihost free 1GB account:

Pinging games.saix.net [196.43.22.222] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 196.43.22.222: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=242
Reply from 196.43.22.222: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=242

So its definitely a VB issue.

Phew, thank goodness my latency is back to normal this morning :D

@snail: Patience young grasshopper. Drop Mr.Beep a mail, he'll sort it for you.

Give us a link to a good one please. I thought 720p was the best quality on Youtube. Just goes to show hey.

Hey Friends,

I am here to apologize :)

There was a fault last night on the @openwebturbo.co.za network (the exact same network Snail moved to). Radius servers will always give trouble at the wrong times.

Engineers are attending. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look ASAP and give feedback.

is this causing the network to crawl along?

is this causing the network to crawl along?

Depends which one :P

On VB and it's fine at times, but bad at other times.
VB should definitely look at changing their torrent shaping rules though :/
It takes me almost a day to grab an entire episode (at 5-6KBps), and I can't leave it on because then everything lags. ;(

Tested my new @openwebturbo.co.za account from 15:00 till 15:30 and it worked fine. Got home 17:00 and no internet connectivity. Mailed MrBeep @ 18:05 and no answer yet.

Maybe I should ask for a refund and move away from OpenWeb Uncapped.

Just ask him to move you onto a different backbone. In my opinion, the @openwebturbo accounts isn't lekker. An IS or VB account will do the trick. But hey, its your choice.

Insane - every-time I start a download I expect MWEB type speeds... and I'm pleasantly surprised.

I had a openwebturbo account a while back and it was pretty great compared to the IS basic uncapped crap

Ah thanks, I think it just might be time to move away from MWEB and get onto this, whilst the speeds last.

Its like night and day.... Openweb FTW

Doing 300-400KB/s every time I decide to download something (NNTP)

Hi snail,

You have attempted to connect from two different ADSL lines. @openwebturbo accounts are locked to 1 line.
If you are moving lines, you can email [email protected] to change it for you.

This practise is used to protect a network, and give you maximum speeds, without having folks connect to multiple sessions eating the bandwidth.

Sent my cancellation to MWEB already, now just have to wait out the 30 days before I switch...if I can wait that long.
