My account is flying... :D

back to 1meg speeds on my side. sigh.

edit - started motoring after 12am - ie when it was 1 feb.

it really doesn't help me disperse a theory i have had that past certain usage the account is no longer as robust. which theory wasn't helped when mrbeep has moved to a new login. and it also deteriorated over time.

i'll actually start keeping a log of this.

Flying my side. As a very generalized observation, towards the end of the month i did notice "lower" stable speeds. 280 - 300's. But considering how i have tested the package, i cant', NAY, will not complain, as it is definately an awesome package. Thanks Openweb!

I don't think its usage related.... I'm pretty sure I did a fair whack of data last month, and after my issues were resolved the product generally maintained 300KBs+ speeds.

Not sure if you're using newsgroups or torrents, but I found on Gold newsgroups seem to work best.

I use a download manager and http, sometimes it fly's and other times it times out.... stays on 0 KB/s. I'm on VB network.
So quite a few of my HD videos gets pixelated when the download times out. Anybody experience the same problem?

Hi all

I've got the after hours up to 10Mbs account (isdsl) and I'm having issues with the is news server. It either download very fast or doesn't connect at all. I have a download that was working fine on MWEB but now doesn't connect at all.

Also just thought i'd mention that apart from that i'm loving the openweb experience...it feels like 1st world internet

The last two days, I've had TCP port 8291 dropped almost immediately. Was there/Is there a problem or is this normal behaviour?

Web Africa account works fine.

Hi Hilton

Please email me: [email protected] so that I can do some tests.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

So far going well on my account - quick question though - My speeds havent gone higher than 260/280KB/s even after 12 at night... Is this normal? Not complaining, loving the speed.

Stay away from openweb!!!

these guys will screw you over any chance they get!!!

rather pay the R120 extra and get a real reliable ISP like mweb

I am interesting in moving to openweb, but wanted to know peoples experience with them when playing WoW (Eu) and on PSN? I was looking at the 1Mbps or 4Mbps on Lite Uncapped ADSL. My interent net usage is currently no more then 30gb a month.

Are you drugged by any chance or just a shameless troll trying to get attention? :wtf:

Openweb is far more superior than any other ISP in SA in my book.

+1, My after hours uncapped is running on high octane. 10mb helps and every month I'm both amazed and a little embarrassed at how sweet this product is... (embarrassed cause I'm flogging it)..

My 2c:

On Tuesday, I contacted OpenWeb because I was having trouble with usenet stability. Everything else was pretty much hunky dory.

They reset my port, and that evening, my line was running at full tilt....but then, come Wednesday, my line is crawling along at sub 384kbs speeds. I have a 4Mbs line, so this was rather disturbing. Bigger problem still, was that now it wasn't just usenet giving issues, but everything I couldn't even browse properly.

So I send another email to OpenWeb, and I get told that it's due to the large scale exchange issues with Telkom. Ok, I figure, give them the benefit of the doubt and wait it out.

Only, last night, round 22:00 (could have begun earlier, not sure) I was getting full speeds again. And this morning? Yeah, you guessed it, crappy crappy crappy line speeds. Completely sub 384kbs...a "good" download goes at 17KB/s :/

I've heard that the uncapped gold accounts (which I subscribe to) do get shaped / throttled 24 hours, which I don't have a problem with, but hell, this seems a bit severe?

Or is this a case of me being shunted onto some fourth rate network during the day, to keep bandwidth available for business? This I have an issue with, since I work from home and I do 99% of my browsing and downloading during the day. At the moment, even gmail is giving me crap due to the slow connection.

I don't download 600GB+ a month, I have uncapped for the convenience of knowing that if I do want that demo, I can go get it. Hell, I haven't even been home to use my internet for three weeks out of the last two months.

Is anybody else experiencing the same? Can anybody perhaps shed some light, or explain OpenWeb gold account shaping / throttling procedures?

What really pisses me off, is that I'm not getting a proper answer from OpenWeb :/

I've now also tested on a Web Africa pre-paid account. I guess if it is really a mass Telkom exchange problem, then WA is running on magic rainbows and pixie dust, since I got full download speeds now, with that account.

Just to verify, are you downloading using SSL during the day from Usenet? If so, disable it and check your speeds again. I also found that during business hours downloading using SSL gets shaped to sub 384k speeds, but as soon as I disabled it, it ran full tilt 420KB/s+.

Furthermore it also depends on which backbone you are on at the moment. The VB network in book is absolutely superb and I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. The only negative thing about the VB network is that torrents don't download like they should, but I'm not a torrent user, nzb and http only and VB performs top notch for both of them. Other than that its quite likely that if Telkom were experiencing exchange issues last night, they could still be working on it today and your exchange might be affected.

+1. No SSL, and NO Torrents.

I think everything is giving trouble atm, not just UseNet if I read the above correct.
