Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Just to verify, are you downloading using SSL during the day from Usenet? If so, disable it and check your speeds again. I also found that during business hours downloading using SSL gets shaped to sub 384k speeds, but as soon as I disabled it, it ran full tilt 420KB/s+.

Furthermore it also depends on which backbone you are on at the moment. The VB network in book is absolutely superb and I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. The only negative thing about the VB network is that torrents don't download like they should, but I'm not a torrent user, nzb and http only and VB performs top notch for both of them. Other than that its quite likely that if Telkom were experiencing exchange issues last night, they could still be working on it today and your exchange might be affected.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried the no SSL connection now, but it only made about 5KB/s difference. What really gets my goat is that where it was just usenet flaking out, currently it's everything. :(

My username ends in @openweb, and as I understand it, that means I'm on the IS network, right? So maybe I can thank IS for this whole collective cluster-whatsit. When you say torrents don't download like they should, what do you mean? Nothing at all, or just really slow speeds? I'm not big on torrents, since being introduced to usenet, but I still use them from time to time as a fall back.

On the Vodacom/Neology network I get horrible HTTP during the day but great torrents at night. (No I dont want to switch to paying even more for an astraweb acc tyvm ^.~) On the VB network I get brilliant HTTP during the day but next to zero torrents at ANY time of day... (Local news servers also have pathetic speeds) Is there no all in one OpenWeb solution that caters for my need of torrents at night + HTTP during the day?

VB is the best network in my opinion. I get the best speeds on the applications I use.

Torrents are just a waste of time

Hey Friends,

There is currently a major Telkom fault causing slow speeds for folks in some areas.

Engineers are attending.

Any more information on this “major Telkom Fault” and the ETA on completion? This has been going on since the start of the week.

Hey Friends,

The fault was resolved at 3am this morning.

Freakboy, it has not been going on since the start of the week. If your connection is slow, please email me: [email protected] so that I can address the fault.

Kind regards

Hey MrBEEP,

Not to be picky, but your twitter feed on Monday says: "Large scale Telkom exchange faults all across the country causing havoc for ADSL users. No matter which network you use. Wake up Telkom!" and yesterday you posted: "There is currently a major Telkom fault causing slow speeds for folks in some areas."
You see why I'm saying it has been going on the whole week :D

My line is working fine atm thanx, just wondering what is going with the "fault" and when it is going to be fixed for the rest of the guys.

A quick update from my side; last night line fine again (lots o' pixie dust, I guess), today, no go. According to the OpenWeb speed meter, I'm getting sub 384kbs line speeds.

Surely if it was exchange faults, my connection would be shoddy 24 hours?

I don't know what exactly is going on with telkom in my area this last 2 weeks. I've seen then basically every day this week at different points. Latency goes up quite a bit around 11 at night.

BTW: This is in Pretoria Sinoville area.

I really hope whatever is going on, gets done quickly so that we can have a stable connection again.

Hi,

Anyone else on the VB network getting sub 1Meg speeds?

Thx
Guz

at this point its blazing. but whether it's sustained is another matter

My connection is also acting not like normal, its not bad, just not what I'm used to. News server currently running at 240KB/s average, its been running 390KB/s average for the last 2 weeks. I'll see maybe it picks up later.
