Had ups and downs last night. Gaming was a nightmare, but then again we had storms, so quite possibly the reason. Mind you, int was slower than i'm used to. E-mailed MrBeep to confirm any problems.

Got said return e-mail from Keoma. Seems Telkom are doing some upgrades and tweaks. Definately interfering with internet. Let's hope they finish soon.

Hey Friends,

There appears to be an international outage on our Internet Solutions based accounts.

@openweb.co.za and @dsl512.isdsl.net will be affected.

We will provide more info as we receive it.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

hi guys

Is the VB network still the best for newsgroups - 1 April is close :D

Thanks

It pomps for newsgroups in my opinion and is blazing for HTTP (at least on my side) :D

Can't wait to get back on uncapped :) Just leaving my damn computer on and normal facebook browsing by my girlfriend has chowed 5GB this month

MrBEEP, have there been problems on the VB networks this week? other than the telkom updates? afternoon speeds are not well. I still think it's international servers that are giving problems. If you could confirm. Otherwise i must get telkom to re-synch or something. Speeds to spike at 350's +, but it's very erratic. Many thanks.

Wasp, I'm also experiencing the same. For some weird reason my Newsdemon downloads via SSL/non-ssl are capped at about 380KB/s (via US server) and using the European one, caps out at about 220KB/s (in the past 460KB/s all the time), Speedtests to New York are below 3MB and local wise its about 3.20, in the past I've always had above 4-5MB on local and international speedtests. Mr.Beep did told me on Sunday to email him to try another network, but I don't want to move away from VB, its the best there is (at least in my book), otherwise they are just shaping the crap out of me, I've only done 152GB this month, that's the most I've ever used while on uncapped with a 4mb VB account.

I still want to see what happens after midnight tonight when we go into a new month. If speeds are back to normal, then it definitely is some sort of heavy shaping once you reach a certain amount of bandwith. Otherwise if other people have done greater amounts than 150GB, then its a Telkom issue somewhere in our areas (which I highly doubt to be the case).

If it is shaping (which i strongly believe it isn't) it isn't hard shaping at all if you consider how the other ISP's are shaping. I too am very happy with VB, and don't want to change. For my Ps3 gaming, it's brilliant (90% of the time). I don't keep track of how much i download, i think i might be in the same region as you are. Perhaps there is priority protocol in operation now during working hours, but in the evening speeds are all over the place. From 9kb/s to 390kb/s all in a few seconds and then back down. I really think it has to do with international servers in some way.

Well I am also on VB Gold 4mb and for the past week the account has run like a dream.Currently using Supernews(non ssl) for my download needs and just having a quick squiz at my speeds - they ran constant at 490KB/s from 12am-6am last night.I have definitely done more than 150GB so I am certain there is no shaping in place.
Of course as I write this I am almost certainly tempting fate and my speeds will go t*ts up.

no doubt this will be the jinx, but my line has been running beautifully since monday (vb 4meg). even during the day i have been getting usenet speeds of 200kB/s+. The http side has been impeccable.

Going super fast here!! On IS!

My service pulled the plug on me about an hour ago.... international sites take like 2 minutes to load (from 10 seconds yesterday) and where torrents would run anything from 5-35KBps, it's sitting on 0.2KBps....
This is like the first day this month where it's been slow for me.
Running IS on 384 Std uncapped.

Almost totally dead my side. Downloads holding at 1kb/s. Can't get into Black Ops servers. Too slow. Eish. First mishap on VB for me.

Update.

Router reboot seems to have helped. Speeds back up.
