Yup. Line is running smoothly (I keep a monitoring tool open at all times).

I've switched over to Afrihost for now... If it happens again I'm seriously going to start pulling out hair.

I was reading up on MyBB about different accounts, so i decided to try OW gold uncapped 384 and never in my life have i been so disappointed. While browsing improved, it now takes me 3 days to download a very very well seeded torrent of 550mb, it took my less than a day on my previous ISP(and it cost me half the price). I never knew about the test accounts at OW, so I spent R318 for nothing..
Just my experience so far :cry:

The main difference between OW and other ISP's is what happens next....

Do you know on which backbone you are? I suggest you send MrBeep an email if you're not sure.
I'm on Gold (384) and get perfectly fine speeds on torrents (on IS) when I need them. VB obviously shapes the daylights out of torrents.
 
I'm not sure, this is a once off account i opened to check it out, I will send him an email yes, I forgot to mention that I'm getting an average of 50 higher ping on BC2 as well since i switched, and that's after hours..

The GOLD accounts have different backbones. Some throttle torrents more than others. Just email Mr. Beep and he should be able to switch you to a different backbone that is more torrent friendly.

You definitely did not spend R318 for nothing. You are on a Gold network that does not suit your needs. Email me - [email protected] with your MyADSL nickname and ADSL username and together we will find a network that does suit your needs.

I now know why people flock to OW, the service is outstanding, within half an hour of emailing Keoma, it was all sorted out and, it suits my needs perfectly, just transferred me to a new backbone and voila. VERY IMPRESSED!!!
 
Big up to Mr. Beep for sorting out my stability/speed issues on uncapped gold account quickly and effectively. Thanks!
 
Anyone else here in Gauteng getting 100KB/s and less on their 4mbit gold uncapped? Mr Beep moved me to another account, but it is still sitting there. I think Telkom is throtteling me.

oke my Dslam gets saturated :/

sometimes no matter what account (use backup prepaids) ill only get 150k... so sometimes it isnt the account

That is clearly the case with me. Telkom has done this before. And when I phone them to check my sync speed, they will tell me it has been limited to 1mbit and then they just remove the limit again. This has happened twice before and I think it is once again the case. I wonder why the hell they do that??!!

Question to the Openweb users;

Do you guys have a recommended package for gaming (at any time) and torrents (don't mind shaping, but they should make reasonable progress during off time). Looking for something for a 4mb line.

Lol.... the one time I do decide to throw a torrent, and IS (Gold) decides to shape torrents to death at 8am..... it was hitting 25KB/s until then. Getting 2-4KB/s now :(

If you want to torrent at all, look at the IS backbone.
All of the backbones in my experience are fine with gaming. VB even more so, because their latency is really quite good. But VB isn't quite torrent friendly. At night the torrents are ~ meh on VB. But everything else runs wonderfully. This is with OW Gold uncapped. A tad more expensive than standard uncapped, but definitely worth the upgrade. The contention ratio is a lot lower.

So the general consensus is that the extra R90 for Gold Uncapped is worth it?

I'm quite friggin poor, so I'd just like to double-check. I surf generally and also torrents, no online gaming (well never had a decent enough connection anyway).

Yes, it is definitely worth it.
Comparing Std uncapped to Gold is like comparing the N1 with the Autobahn.
In terms of torrents, Std uncapped is more shaped during the day but it's fine at night. Just remember not to "abuse" your line with constant downloads, as to keep away from thresholds. Gold has no thresholds on the amount of data.
