Downloads are very unstable at the moment. Download speeds are dropping and downloads are failing.

I don't know about you guys but I would like a detailed explanation of what happened.

You cant just blame company X while never taking responsibility as company Y

Well the d slam at cape town had a slight issue on the thermal sensor, that caused a short in the electrical cables which then took the adsl networks down.

Now that you have the technical info do you feel better?

Anyone else having problems on vb in Cape Town? I haven't gone over 200KBs in just over a week.

Looking at the state of this thread, I'm actually rather surprised that OpenWeb is doing so well. No offense, MrBeep, but every second person is having problems on a daily basis. I'm not sure if I've never noticed it before or what, but I can't remember the last time someone in here said their connection is working correctly.

Cause 99% of people (including me) will only post if / when we experience problems.

This. My account (IS) has been perfect for the last two or three months (I can't recall exactly when I switched to the IS backbone). I monitor this thread but don't really add much unless there's a problem :o

Well sure, it is a bit concerning when you see periods of problem posts, though there are times on this thread when things are just as quiet. And as mentioned above, happy people don't post nearly as often. Wonder off to the other ISP threads like MWeb's for a while, they have plenty of their own issues.

I do notice more complaints about IS accounts than usual, my own account also tanked the beginning of the month but got a working one again. There are definitely some quality issues they need to address, but I'm on the IS backbone by choice as I still get the best throughput for 384k on a variety of protocols. At least Openweb gives the option of shifting backbones if one doesn't suit you.

Still good value, for what I'm paying anyway.

Well, I think the issue generally lies with Telkom's IPC. It's been discussed before and, especially, experienced with me. I've been on ALL the backbones and some work beautifully while others really, really just don't, but the same backbone would be perfect for someone else.

Right now, my perfect backbone is IS. I get full 4Mb line-speed 24/7, there's some modest shaping on video streaming during the day but nothing I can't live with.

<--- Happy customer :)

Yes, but the problem is, you also see the same people having recurring issues week after week. That certainly doesn't bode well, and the fact that various users with the same configurations and problems experience the same problems.

It would be okay if people periodically experienced issues, but it's more like people experience issues, with little periodical times of their products working well. In my experience, I'm more often than not, not satisfied with my product, and count myself lucky the day it works at a passable level.

Go look at the MWEB thread to really see complaints. I'm on IS GOLD and HAPPY as can be.
