VB was snapy after 6pm but not so much now.

No dude i am not saying don't complain, if you have issues give it horns :D. Just don't give it horns if the fix is easy.

What area are you in? I live in randburg and vb is flying nntp at 300. I have download 11 gb since 7 this morning. I only know that because my digital playground hd flick is on 11gb and i loaded it this morning :D.

What backbones have you tried? i tried bcs and IS before i hit gold :D. what backbone is openweb rapid?

Am down in Stanger, KZN (about 100kms from Durbs).

Enjoy the DP stuff, top quality that ya. I guess am just hoping for it to run full speed. Should i get Astraweb? i used Newshosting & Newsdemon before and no problems but nowmost recommend Astra?

I never email Keoma yet, will trouble him abit then :D thanks for the tips.

Note i said no NNTP or torrents above but i never said i wasn't going to use it :p. Now i want too "sigh" need my anime fix
 
Try all of them until you hit the spot hey, with so many there is bound to your perfect match.

I think on openweb gold it makes little to no difference which news server you use, i only used newsdemon ssl to get around mwebs shaping but they got wise :( haha.

Hey guys, I got a 4Mbps Gold account on Friday but my speeds have been very crappy - currently going at 70kB/s on a torrent and just before that 90kB/s on HTTP download. Is this the kind of speeds I should be expecting with this account? And yes I have reset my router, and yes everything goes full speed with my Telkom account.
I'm on the IS backbone.

@Daderp, email Keoma (MrBeep) [email protected] and tell him your username and forum username (so he can keep track i would presume).

First check your last bit of the username to identify which network you on, see above posts for all the backbone examples.

Make a note of it and ask to be put onto another one. As killadoob and the others have said, keep changing until you find one that gives you the best experience.

Keoma is very understanding IMO so be nice :).

report your findings (assume if you don't post for a day) you leeching like hell lol :).

I think that about covers the basics, anything else i missed, the guys will post.

Edit: since you on IS, start with VB etc

Nope - just changed username and password - I tried rebooting the router a few times in August, did't help.

I think @openweb is IS
 
Gold on Altech flying as usual, 560KB/s on http downloads earlier. My only problem is that I have run out of things to download.

Anyone aware of problems on the IS network? It's 22:15 now and downloads are seriously crawling on my 1Mbps Gold account. Even speedtest is testifying to this:

My upload speed seems to be faster than my download?!

Might as well be on a 384K right now. :(

If this doesn't improve I'll be sending MrBEEP a pm.

I think my VB 4MB Gold account is also affected somehow.. not impressed with this speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1467821786.png

Sigh, going to try a router reboot :(
 
Something's definitely wrong. My upload speed is 0.12MB/s faster than my download speed, which in itself is running at a 10th of the account's capacity.
Since I got this account on the 1st, Steam has been effectively useless in that I can't download from any of the local servers or international at a consistent, nevermind high, speed and I've been unable to stream HD video on Youtube effectively. I was able to download a good chunk with torrents over the weekend, but otherwise, this account has been somewhat disappointing and would be very limiting to me without my backup account. I don't think my usage habbits are unreasonable either and I'm not asking for full speed 24/7, but I'd like to be able to do what I want on the internet without being limited to sub-384k speeds.

Well... I can't get more than 4kB/s out of international performance at all.
Steam = nogo
Ventrilo = nada
EVE = dead
Shoutcast 32kb/s stream = unlistenable
oDesk workspace = timeout

...

Somewhat unacceptable.


EDIT: After some more poking around... seems web browsing is fine, but any other services are suffering heavily.
How is it that something that looks suspiciously like hardcore throttling gets blamed on a Telkom fault?

@wheunis, get into contact with MrBEEP and ask him to check. Which backbone are you on?

Am going to email now to get changed as i tested the VB backbone and it isn't working out at the moment for me.

@StoneCold...feel like slappin' you lol 10MB ftw :/
