Hi Friends,

There is currently a major Telkom IPC fault causing connectivity issues on some of the ADSL networks.

Engineers are attending. We apologize for the inconvenience!

I sincerely hope this is the cause of the DNS issues I've been having with my VB account. Please update us when the maintenance is over, if you don't mind MrBeep :)

I second that. Still cannot access any "complex" websites with URLs longer than a certain length (on VB). Must be, as you say, a DNS server problem. Been nearly two weeks now. But I don't think it's Telkom related, as it started exactly when the Seacom cable broke.

My account went back to its stellar performance of 40KB/s at about 5pm yesterday...was hoping it would come right but it hasn't... more fiddling required. 10 days left.

EDIT : I'm now getting 8KB/s 1.56% of line speed for R738 - the maintenance required on this is ridiculous.

will do, thing is they open eventually but very slow. Getting really bad download speeds as well...10kb/s. I checked my line with another account and it's fine. Even the speedtest on vb is getting great results...but NNTP is bad.

Grrr....
Speeds have been good today. Updated Ubuntu at a flying pace.
Got back onto Windows and now the 17KBps speeds are back.... (that's http and ftp combined).

I had the same, just now...paused a download and when I resumed it was going extremely slow. I then connected with my telkom account and tested and it was fine. So I connected back to openweb(vb) and getting good speed once again.

Yeah I've noticed it tends to do that. Another router reset seems to allow http to go faster, but ftp is still the speed of a snail on sleeping tablets.

There is something seriously wrong with Openweb and HTTP traffic at the moment, trying to pull the Catwoman DLC for Batman. So far it's peak at about 2KB/s. Switched to SAIX and it maxes out at full line speed. This has been a trend for the last week or so. Yet all other protocols seem fine. Just http is a problem. Anyone else having problems at the moment on IS backbone? Durban. 4MB Gold Uncapped.

Update. Now preloading Battlefield at a whopping 19KB/sec. :(

Looks like I'm in for a fun weekend again, my average speed for the last 24 hours has been 50KB/s, tried changing ports, tried changing services, tried rebooting the router a few times. It took 20min to open an international website.

Looks some sort of throttling - because when it connects it jumps to a decent speed (200) - and then dies without seconds...

I have now gone through the laborious task of trying every port Newsdemon offers... all the same.

xRapidx, sounds like we're in the same boat. They actually swapped me over to IS yesterday, was just getting such terrible speeds. Quite a bummer :( I haven't had nice internet for months.
