Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Mmmm, so both of you are on completely different looking VB accounts than the one's that copacetic and myself have. My download speeds on VB are so poo for NNTP, I can't even remember what it felt like before this crap started :(

Guess I'll mail MrBeep and ask for an account structured the same way like you guys have this "oisp-oisp" variant I have must be part of a bad batch or something.

The "tracert" calls in the above examples are obviously to the root website (www.metacritic.com) and I have no problem opening the root site (though it is very slow).

The problem is to open "complex" weblinks, i.e. anything to subdirs of the website root, e.g. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/portal-2, which NEVER opens, same as most USA programming websites. Unfortunately you cannot do a tracert to a subdir like this, as that would possibly have exposed the underlying problem.

It seems the problem is mostly with USA complex weblinks, or weblinks longer than a certain length. Really weird. My money is on a VB DNS server problem, like StoneCold said.

MrBEEP, did VB ever provide a possible cause for the problem?

DNS issue? Well the DNS merely turns metacritic.com into an IP address. If you can find the IP then it's not a DNS problem.
I'm using the Google DNS as VB DNS has been problematic in the past (as per OpenWeb's recommendation).
Also, there is no further route to trace, between mc.com and mc.com/subdirectory, as it's merely a folder/file within.

For me it's the other way around, I can't seem to open www.metacritic.com but http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/portal-2 opens up very easily and quickly.

It eventually opened for me now, but man, this is so frustrating. I'm using Google Chrome and the little wheel hasn't stopped spinning so it's still loading. It looks as if it struggles to load adverts on websites or something. I'm still awaiting feedback from MrBeep, hope we can get to the bottom of this, asap !

Openweb uncapped FTW!
Best uncapped account I've had so far :D
Thanks for making my interwebz experience so much better :)
Only problems I have is sometimes sites dont load, but after hitting refresh once or twice its fine.

I have had zero complaints with my little 384 Gold... this is the 3rd month without a hitch and full speed (yes I know that this is a contradiction in terms on a 384 line) 24 / 7.

Everything just vrooming puuuurrfectly.

Oh, apart from a brief SEACOM disruption on the 10th... so no complaints from me.

First time in a few years I have been upset with OW.

Busy reformatting my PC. Downloading Avast, Flash, etc. On OW Gold 4meg, paying extra for the lower contention ratio. Emailed to ask why my speeeds are not seeing over 5kB/s to which they replied

"Thank you so much for your email!
Daytime shaping focuses on any form of download, but After Hours makes up for it, where unshaping starts to occurr from 17:00, and at midnight where everything is unshaped"

Am I wrong to think this is BS?

Hello,

If the shaping policies on this network does not suit you, why not request to be moved to a different network? There is no need to be upset when you have the choice to move.

MrBeep, thanks for suggesting that. I see now you/someone has replied to my mail, it would've been nice if that were suggested earlier on.

I posted here asking if I am being ridiculous, not as a dig at you guys.

New details sent :)

I have noticed that my regular uncapped 1mbps account has been slower when connecting to certain sites and trying to stream Youtube videos...worse at some times than other. On the whole, though, I am satisfied with my OpenWeb Uncapped special account
and pleasantly surprised at the speed at which Keoma responded to my application.

Really happy at the moment. My VB account is suddenly flying at full speed...sites are also opening much better.
:)

Hhahah I must just be cursed today.. Seems Altech doesn't like NNTP at all. Won't even connect when I am on this network, my spare Afrihost acc works fine. I hope things will get back to normal when Seacom has been fixed.

Altech accounts do not like NNTP whatsoever from my experience.

Thanks TimVD

Well I'll ask to swap over to another network once Seacom has been sorted out.
