operation RROD

spoke to powercare today, they actually called me today, to confirm address details, the ship has docked with the goods, went through customs and on the way to JHB via rail soon, they expect with all delays to start distro next week latest, well we will have to WAIT and see...

That does not mean "your console" is part of the shipment. It could be but it might not be...

The whole thing looks like a royal fookup to me.

Well I do not blame people for feeling done in. Its not the fault of M$ alone but the demographics of our situation locally.

RROD was the major reason I bought PS3 rather. Thanks to the Anti PS3 brigade that "forced" me to look deeper into the issue.

As consolation maybe it's time to cut the losses and buy a Jasper. Then pray nothing will happen with it after 1 Year expired.

For now I am looking forward to a second console, and NO! it will not be an Xbox yet.

dammit, they better not give me a zephyr

dude i spoke to John Press says they have a new policy u get what u had, no more zepher surprises but also if u not had a jasper ur outa luck, u now get what u had, also spoke to CIndy @ powercare they got the stock, they will send out from monday

As soon as my Xbox RROD, I went out and bought a Jasper - with the idea that I'd get my replacement in 2 weeks, sell it and live happily ever after without a RROD console.

I'm not really anti/pro either (my brother lived with me for 8 months and we had his), so it wouldn't have bothered me. Plus now many of the games are actually on both platforms.

I knew about the RROD when I bought the console, but was put at ease by the 4 year, 5 working day replacement. However had I known this was actually 3+ months with many broken promises, I'd rather just have spent the other R4,000.00 on a PS3 and traded my Xbox games.

they shipping out the replacement consoles this week starting today, they have been dispatched today :P

Cool man ... 26% of a year :P

Also need to give them the power supplies ...

Hi All

New to the forum and glad to see I'm not alone, in this most horrific of experiences.

It's coming up to 3 months since I first submitted my claim, I am yet to receive my authorisation no. for the claim and have sent 3 emails (to the generic email address and BerniceP) requesting it, to no avail.

In my line of work, it is impossible for me to call everyday and hound powercare, in order to force them to speed up the process.

I had an Arcade Xbox to replace that had a disc reading error, does this slow the replacement process?

If there is any advice that can be shared with me in order to help me get my replacement sooner? I'd very much appreciate it.

Last year I went through althe trouble to buy my xbox from Musica - I tried to ensure that I buy from a reputable company. Now that my xbox has rrod'd, they claim that they do not handle warranty cases anymore - it is the clients problem. Exscuse me....WTF!!! Has Musica forgotten that they are legally bound by that small script on the back of the PoP that states that one has to keep receipts for just such situations.
Except for that snag, it is stated in the xbox warranty manual on page 4, that Microsoft will pay for transport expenses.
Before I continue, let me just state my current location: Walvis Bay, Namibia
Since the previous company that handled xbox warranties got liquadated, the new company (power something) that handles warranties is situated in Jo'burg somewhere.
Now this morning I spoke to this Cindy chick at power whatever, and she told me it is not her problem to get my faulty xbox couried to her. I aggree...it is Musica's problem, since I bought the system from them. However they are throwing a blind eye. Between Microsoft,Musica and Power-whatever, they expect me to handle the courrier charges which could amount to +/- R1300.
This is insane. My unit is not even a year old, and I am ot even a heavy gamer - only have 5 games in my collection!!!
Tomorrow I am seeking legal advice. Rather spend the money in court, than try to further "negotiate" a warranty case.
Phuck them all!!!!!!

Register your case with Microsoft direct first. They will advise you what to do. They apparently send you a box to use. Things could have changed but Microsoft should be your first angle to take frome here on.

Again its the SA consumer being shafted. In the US this is handled smoothly and delicately especially considering the high failure rate of earlier units. Wish I could tell dryjoint that Sony or Nintendo resellers are much better, but this is Africa; you're gonna have to fight tooth and nail or you will get screwed.

Penguin - thanks for the advice. Do have contact info, and do you know if they cover Namibia as well?

In this case Namibia. Hope there is a Microsoft.

Yeah at least with Sony, Wii and Jasper (Lets pray) you have less chance. That is a fact.

Just read this thread, specially where PixelAPusha.. posted. I do not have the details but I am 100% sure if you PM PixelPusha he will help and give you all the details.

John Press lies:
I received my replacement console today (after almost 3 months of waiting)
I handed in a console with MFR date of 2008 08 23 and a 14.2 power rating (terminology?) and I got a 2007 MFR with 16.5 power
I'm pretty sure this a step backwards? Am I right on this?

Most definitely. I'm quite glad I went the private repair route.

Hey all. Update to my current stuation:
After threatening Musica with legal action, they replaced my console with a retail unit. Seems there are still issues regarding warranty replacements with units in Namibia.
Nevertheless, the lady at my outlet was kind enough to take the rap and supplied me with a NEW unit, and not a refurbished unit.
My new unit has a manufacturing date: 2008-08-26
the power rating is still 14.2A on the 12v rail.
I assume this is also a Falcon. There are no other detail on the unit such as "team CSON" or "lot #".
Can I derive the what revision (jasper,falcon...) it is according to the s/n or product id?
