Hi guys

as you have guessed by the title. my xbox has RROD on me last night

i have read the thread with regards to the replacement of the xbox but just want to iron out a few things. here is my story

i got my xbox with a cellphone contract on 30/06/2007 ( i have the slip and everything). my manufacturer date on the actual console is 2006-07-26

am i still covered by the 3 year warranty. thats step one

i want to know the most painless route to take to get the xbox swapped.

am i going to HAVE to go the MIdigital route

where do i find the unit model number , is it perhaps the Product ID on back of console?

ie: ms ref no, download form or online form, auth number and wait.

or is there a way to get it swapped at the store i got the xbox from. ie GAME

Just speaking from my own experience - MiDigital is the only route you can go. I tried the store route, but they just gave me the MS Forms and said to fax them off to MiDigital. I didn't know what the model number was - I just put the serial number on the form - they can figure it out from there.
My Xbox was also a 2006 manufactured one - thankfully the new swapped out one is at least Oct 2008.

Good luck .. I only had to wait 7 and a bit weeks for my swap out :( Best bug them weekly about it.

yeah

i didnt quite believe the whole 5 working days thing

well, hopefully i will win here

just waiting for microsoft to open so i can get the ref number

what do i put as the error on the form - RROD or E74?

E74.

I got the same thing and faxed my forms through last week Wednesday. Still havn't heard a peep from them. What a pathetic company.

If you have three red blinking light on the unit then it's RROD...so then you write RROD.

If you E74 error on screen well then it's E74.

Safe bet....just write RROD

And if it really isn't RRODing then make it! If you break it good and proper then they have to swap it out :D

Oh, and if they give you any grief contact Microsoft directly and report MID.

Good luck!

ok, here is my progress

contacted MID, spoke to the lady (seemed fairly helpful)
she says it is E74, red lights. ok check

i should in theory be receiving a call in 48hours

if i dont, MID will be receiving a call in 48 hours

i got the ladies name so she has no escape. (names are important ive learned)

Faxed through my form and details and the all important proof of purchase

so now, i wait and pray

I've never had nor seen an RRoD in the 3 or so years I've owned an Xbox 360 console. I did have to replace a console due to a fault in the graphics card and it was the simplest thing in the world.

This might sound weird you should actually be happy this happened. By looking at the date of your unit you should now be receiving a much better/newer/stable unit which is a much better deal imo.

im hoping it is as simple for me as it was for you

i dont mind waiting a bit, i am a patient man

as long as it gets done i will be happy as hell

or Maestro Za will be getting a call or mail

I honestly would rather send it to maestro and know that it comes back in the best shape it can be. And he is quick. I have had to swap out consoles twice now, but the last time maestro did it for me it was just way faster and the service was way better. Even if my Xbox was still under warranty, I would still send it to maestro... heck... that's what I did.

send it back. Your drive will probably fail soon so cost wise its better just to wait.

if i do come short with the whole return swop thing

what cost am i looking at if i send it to Maestro ZA

just so i can start getting cash together

in case

Why everyone talking about me :D

Browse my site (in my sig) and then you'll know a bit more about my services.

You can certainly go the MI Digital route.

It's the luck of the draw, some people get helped quickly ... others wait months!

Good luck :D

thanks maestro

will check out your details and stuff

its awesome having a forum of guys who are supportive during this dark hour :-)

My XBOX RROD'ed on Tuesday. Started trying to get the process going on Wednesday morning and have now made my way onto Hello Peter. A copy of my post:

My XBOX 360 is displaying the infamous Red Ring of Death. I have been trying to contact your distribution partner, MI Digital, since Wednesday, but to date have not been able to even get someone there to pick up the phone. I have phone Microsoft SA directly and spoken to someone in E&D Product Marketting who was very helpful (thanks John!) and even phoned the direct line of a certain Cathy who is supposed to be able to help me, but even that phone remains unanswered. The status:

No answer on 0861 XBOX 360 (Official number given to me by Microsoft XBOX Tech Support)
No answer on 011 997 5032 (Cathy)
No answer on 011 997 5000 (MI Digital Switchboard)
No response on email to [email protected]
The on-line submission clam form on www.midigital.co.za is BROKEN

Sorry, but this is unacceptable service on an item that cost a lot of money and is now a useless door-stop. Seeing as MI Digital is YOUR partner and they are a Company Who Doesn't Respond, I'd appreciate it if Microsoft SA could resolve this issue immediately.

Microsoft responded very quickly, so kudos to whoever is monitoring their Hello Peter account. Now I'm waiting for MI Digital, but to be honest I have no faith in even Microsoft getting hold of anyone there, unless they have someone's cell-phone number or something. We'll see and I will keep you all posted.

On a side note, and maybe even worthy of a post all on it's own, if you have a look at the Microsoft listing on Hello Peter, it makes a VERY compelling argument to get a PS/3...

Hey Juice

i kept calling MIdigital and managed to get hold of a woman named ruth

she seemed helpful and gave me a fax number to fax to

the number given to me was 011 723 1931

hope this helps

According to an MS response to another Hello Peter complaint, MI Digital are in the process of moving offices and communications are disrupted. Hopefully by Monday, they'll get back to their regular business of doing XBOX customers a disservice.
