So true!

Then again, my personal Xbox 360 is two years old as of now and its still going strong.

Really the luck of the draw in many cases

Seeing as I repair PS3s and Wii's as well as 360, they all have crappy hardware.

The scourge of lead-free solder and Chinese manufacturing ...

Dead PS3s are stacking up in my workroom on a weekly basis (averaging 5 a week). The 40GB and 60GB models are dying at a rapid rate. Middle finger to the 0.02% failure rate ... its worse than that!

Nintendo Wii's have a "Black Screen Of Death" due to the bluetooth module not initializing that is affixed to the motherboard. Then no video with sound ... pathetic life-span on "next-gen" consoles I tell you.

Consumers are getting shafted.

So what's the next step. I'll be more than happy (and hundreds of other users) to support the cause of ridding Mi Digital of their Xbox repair license and having it passed on to some other stable company.

To be fair, who'd want it? If I was MI Digital, I'd hand the screaming baby back to its parents, Microsoft. Microsoft ought to be held directly accountable for the shocking failure rate and the associated replacement process.

Don't feel to bad...Nintendo (CORE) is actually worse than Mi Digital. I still believe that if a retail shop sells you something they should be in charge of it. This phoning, getting auth number, couriers, wait forever crap is just BS.

Just a quick update on my progress

after pestering MI digital

speaking to 4 different people

i finally got the auth number from them and Cindy says i should have my new unit delivered by early next week

lets wait and see

Update!

MI Digital responded and asked for my proof of purchase. Two moves since I bought the XBOX has buried the PoP somewhere in a box. Currently looking for a credit card statement.

In another surprising turn of events, Microsoft themselves contacted me to apologise for the lack of service I received from MI Digital and the very nice lady offered to assist me directly in getting my console replaced. I sent everything on to her and am now waiting for a response.

Let's hope it's all sorted in a matter of days.

Lets hope Microsoft does a better job than their "over-paid" distributor :p

i have a question lets say my box dies and i dont have proof of purchase? How would they know its under warranty and how long is the warranty on the replacement unit?

Well your xbox has its date of manufacture on it. And teh warranty I guess is for three years from date of purchase or without proof of purchase, at the very least three years from date of manufacture.

I cant find my PoP and called MI Digital. THey said without the PoP they have to charge me R680, plus I have to pay for courier charges. WHich makes no f__king sense. Either my console is under warranty or its not. It clearly is, so what difference does the PoP make. I can understand if it was manufactured longer than three years ago but I alledge that I bought it under three years ago.. well then fine, but its clearly still under warranty. WHy then simply because i cant find the PoP do I have to pay R680 plus courier charges!?!?

They will also accept the Credit Card statement that reflects the purchase of your XBOX, so check if you still have that somewhere...

The units they give you only have 1 year, right ... ?

Any chance you can post Cindy's number?

I've got the issue, and all their numbers are not working. Constantly engaged.

Just a question, but can't a mod merge all these RROD threads into one, or just move it a general RROD help and tips thread?(Or even the 360 FAQ thread) Every 2nd thread these days is about another 360 biting the dust, and i'm sure one consolidated thread will work just as well instead of having the console section cluttered by these threads...

Maybe it would be better to have all the threads separate, just to give everyone an idea of how often the XBOX 360 fails... :)

Darko, just keep on trying their numbers. I eventually got through on 011 997 5000.

so lets say i pay the 600 or somethin. Whats my warranty on the replacement?

Pretty sure I heard a year - and you won't get a new super duper one either ... so it'll break withn 6-18 months
