Anyone here have an iPad? I have the opportunity to get one from Hong Kong at end of the month but i cant decide whether i should get one or not. Want some first hand opinions on this thing. I want to use it mainly for the following:

Reading papers when i am doing my research (planning on going for a part time MSc so lots of reading to be done)

Web browsing around the house

It will also be nice gimmick to demo some web-apps when i am at work. Not sure if it can replace a pen and paper for taking notes in meetings, but that i will only really find out when i get one. If it does then it will become a daily work thing as well.

If you do plan to carry it around might be worthwhile waiting for the 3g model

Yea, thats the other thing I am weighing up. Work has wifi which works superbly on iphones, home has awesome wifi as well. WITS doesn't like the wifi. Going to see what goes on Sale internationally on the 26th, i hear they might just drop both the 3G and wifi models same time. I will have another opportunity in August to pick one up from there if i dont get one now, so I might just wait it out. Problem with August if they update macbooks (which they almost always do around that time of the year) i might want one of those as well :P hahaha. Decisions decisions....

Same. To get iBooks you'll probably have to use a US account. But this is easy to get in SA.

I think the great thing about the iPad is the ability to browse the web from the comfort of your couch, bed or toilet:) No need to start up your notebook or pc. Your iPhone is able to achieve this but you don't have a 9.7" screen:) Also, what I will use it as a universal remote and yes the iPhone does this to:)

The 3G version is tempting but I'm not sure why I would use it when I leave my house? I have an iPhone and if I need to check something quickly in the store, I can very easily do so with the iPhone.

IMO, the 32Gb version is the best bang for buck - #justsaying

Don't forget to get a hunting/utility vest with big pockets. One for the iPhone, another for an iPad and then for various accessories. :)

I played with one in the Apple store yesterday.

It's a well made piece of kit, and if I was going to get one it would be with the 3G and the 64Gb model, but the 64Gb without the 3G is a whopping $700.
It doesn't have things like USB ports, just the type of connector found on the iPhone and iPod's - maybe there's an adapter?

But I cant find the need for one of these - I carry my laptop with me and if not that, then the smart phone (pocket PC) - can get a damn nice laptop for $700 with better specs.

Finally getting one... Im surprised at my restraint at waiting this long :) I decided to get a 32GB Wifi model because its, in my opinion, after much research the best value.

Also, im hoping that the MyWi on my iphone works as well as it does on my netbook. I cant wait for tomorrow until it arrives all shiny and new from New York!

Now... Time to trawl the accessories sites :)

How are you getting your ipad? Are you importing it vie post or is some one you know bringing it?

You one lucky man!

Just came across this guys, can setup an android phone as a wifi hotspot and just connect your wifi ipad to that. Means i am not getting the 3G version, just going to go for this, since my HTC Tattoo will be with me all the time.

Ok... So this is my first message from my shiny new iPad! Yay! My first impressions are that it is incredibly responsive and that I think I could be in love :) The only real limitation I've experienced is network quality, I'm not having the best of connectivity today so my YouTube is lagging a bit, but aside from that I'm all good.

It's disgusting to be this old and this excited by a gadget!!!

definite envy going on over here!

I've had mine for a few days now and I absolutely love it. For those who struggle to see a use for it I can tell you that I use mine almost constantly for surfing the web, emailing, watching movies and I'm even reading my first ebook. The only downside is that I'm going to have to invest in a man-bag so I can carry it with me everywhere I go!
