I'm in and out of Jhb next Friday and need to get to Northcliff. Round about the corner of Beyer Naude and Waugh.

I thought it would be nice to take the Gautrain but am a bit lost with the bus routes as I know absolutely nothing of the city. Even looking at the stops for the train I'm not sure which one would be better.

Help a Capie out my Gauteng cousins and point me in the right direction from OR Tambo and back :)

Not sure about the bus route. The closest gautrain station is Sandton.

I would advise against using Lanseria... especially to/from CPT. they are frequently delayed etc etc. Just check hellopeter for more on this.
ORTIA to sandton via gautrain. I know the gautrain bus route passes by the randburg waterfront ( not sure of any further west towards northcliff) but you can take a cab to northcliff from there. its about 5 or 6 kms...might be pricey though!
good luck.

0861 Taxi Cab
Had to use them once for an emergency
They charged about R500 from OR Tambo to Northcliff

From Killarney (near Rosebank Gautrain) I think they charged me R300 to Northcliff

I would rather hire a car. Any taxi-service or airport shuttle will more or less charge you 300-500 bucks per trip.

Thanks for the advice so far. I booked using some air miles so I'm stuck with Tambo.

Using this lot, getting a cab straight from ORT is going to be R810 return, but using Gautrain, a cab from Sandton station is about R460 return plus R230 for the train itself.

So R810 against R690 makes me think I'd rather just take the cab directly from the airport rather than get lost in unfamiliar surroundings in Sandton.

I'll still have a look into the bus routes though as I've got a shed load of time and the train is always nice :)

You can arrange a tuk tuk from sandton if you are you for it. Sheshatuks. Co. Za I think. ..

I would take the train to Sandton and then find a taxi from there. The airport taxi's are more expensive and there are way more taxi's at Sandton, more options. Also look at joining up with the rapid bus service, its offers different routes to the gautrain.

Taking a taxi from the Airport is going to be insane, you might wait a while. The train is way faster and its easier for people to get to you from Sandton if you have issues.

Rent a car using Avis or EuropCar. Use Garmin because even if you have a smartphone, Joburg streets are hectic.

+1

I stay in Northcliff and closest Gautrain station is Rosebank.

- Take Gautrain from OR Tambo Airport to Sandton Station
- Change trains in Sandton into Gautrain towards Rosebank
- Take a Cab from Rosebank to Northcliff...The trip is less than 12kms to your destination

Alternatively

- Take Gautrain from OR Tambo Airport to Sandton Station
- Take a Cab from Sandton to Northcliff...The trip is less than 16kms to your destination

Sitting at ORT on the way back to CT just now. It worked out like this....

Drive from Hermanus to CTIA = R200
Airport parking = R100
Fly to ORT return = 27000 air miles and R1300 tax
Gautrain = R241
Return cabs from Sandton to Cresta mall = R460
Got the job = priceless :)
