Orange box dilemma

I'm getting the 360 version. Something about playing on a 42" plasma gives me the warm tingles.

Just don't come crying when you can't find people to play with :P

four of my buds all have the 360 so they'll be getting it too. I dont think there will be much of a shortage of us wanting to play :)

wow, a 5 player game of Team Fortress... Fun :D
they have friends too ;)

Now the point is - they wont be getting the pc version so why would I even consider it?

'cause 100s of others will?
It might be the appropriate time to point out that we also believe PCs (iow windows) to be the blight on the computing landscape - our only concession to m$soft being the 360 (mostly because we hate sony more). ;)

Starsiege tribes? You are actually comparing a 9 year old game with Gears of War? No, screw that! I compared the most popular Xbox 360 game with one of the most popular local PC games. Don't let me even start throwing in Counterstrike into this argument. You know you'll lose then.

Uh, you not reading your own posts? you make reference to some unnamed obscure 360 game with your derision of the xbox but you refuse to name it. Sure starsiege is probably not a good example, but it was the last one with which I had the experience

- Unpopular PC games are even less supported than unpopular 360 games, because the social network around the 360 is in a different league.

X360 games are all hosted on peer-to-peer, except a few MMORPGs. :)

All 360 games are currently peer networking based - ie you connect directly to your friends instead of a server. The downside is that most games have less than 32 players at a time, but the upshots are

a. The games are local and low latency (PSN servers are all in Europe)
b. If there's players there's always a server.
c. Finding Friends and games through Live is an absolute breeze. I maxed out my friends list (100 peeps) in about 2 weeks with just locals.
d. you don't have a situation, like EA is about to do, Where old games get disconnected after 2 years.

thanks guys :)

WTF?! I said GoW! As in Gears of War!

Jeez.

Hmm... this is a tough call. PC version will prolly be cheaper, plus I can take my laptop with me when I'm out of town (which is often) and play HL2 Ep 2 and Portal.

But the 360 version, I can play on my 32" and have 5.1 surround, but I have to pay for Live.

Bah.

@ Glordit - Sure, any $15k PC will look better than a $299 console. ;)

@ Toxin - Currently the only crossover game for both PC & X360 platforms to slug it out is Shadowrun. Which is quite enjoyable since its only MP based, kinda like CS without the ridiculous bunny hopers and magnun/shotty spammer. :D

ROFL IMO a 8K PC could run most DX10 games well :) PS3 is only about 6k minus the TV :p

Aren't you already paying for live? If not you should be! :D

Nope... you don't need a gold account to access the GH2 leaderboards :p

How would that work here in SA?

Well, it does, but not particularly well. Bad lag can kill a game like Gears or any other FPS. You'll typically be able to play, but you run about 1/2 second behind everyone else, so you get pwned before you've even seen the guy.

Games like RTS's or board games are less twitchy, as reflexes aren't as important.

Damn, that sucks! Why are there no SA servers (by SGS or someone) for PSN? The way I understand it, XBOX360 is P2P, right? So for an SA online gamer the 360 is a better option?

Correct. By quite a margin. There's already a really active community up and running (1000+) And that's before it's officially been launched here. ;) The game invite system also works a lot better. Instead of choosing a game, and then logging onto a server to see if anyone is playing, it works the other way around, you have a list of all your friends and what they're playing and can join them, or invite them to join you in a game at any time.

We'll have to see what happens for the PSN. Epic have said that you'll be able to host your own UT3 PS3 games on PC, so maybe SGS will be able to host that for them, but I don't know about any other games, they'd need a sponsor or something.
