Just noticed that the kernel_task process is using about 71GB of virtual memory. Not sure if this is normal or not, but I can't seem to find any reason as to why this value is so high.

I did install trend micro recently but completely removed it to see if anything would change after a reboot, but it hasn't.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am more a command line person - try those:

sudo zprint -t -s | head -n20

sudo fs_usage

If you think that disk-writes are lingering, you can always do a "sync && sudo purge"

I wonder why there's such a difference?
