Fourteen current and former African National Congress (ANC) MPs were convicted and fined on Monday after pleading guilty to theft and fraud charges stemming from abuse of parliamentary travel vouchers.

The sentencing, carried out in the Cape High Court in terms of plea-bargain agreements with the Scorpions, came only a day ahead of their next scheduled court appearance in the case.

And more plea agreements are in the offing, according to Scorpions prosecutor Jannie van Vuuren.

Before Monday’s plea bargains, a total of 23 current and former MPs, including one from the Democratic Alliance, had been due in court on Tuesday, along with five travel agency employees and bosses.

The 14, who include the general secretary of the ANC Women’s League, Bathabile Dlamini, were sentenced by Cape Judge President John Hlophe to fines ranging from R25 000 to R120 000, with alternatives of three to five years’ jail.

Ace and DD used us to take top 6 position – ANCWL

ANCWL national spokesperson Toko Xasa as well as league president Bathabile Dlamini blamed patriarchy in the ANC for the outcome of the result. Xasa went on to accuse Magashule and Mabuza of using the ANCWL and Dlamini-Zuma to further their own ambitions for the top posts.

"They did not pull the candidate up. They used it (Dlamini-Zuma's campaign) as a ladder for themselves – that one we are not shy to say. They used that as a ladder for themselves. It's our demonstration to you to say this is how patriarchy is rearing its ugly head."

I can perfectly picture Bathabile being the kind of woman who doesn't believe her husband cheats on her while he's been coming back home at 11pm and working week ends for the past two years.
 
ANCWL on about patriarchy when they threw their full weight behind Zuma during his rape trial and criticised Khwezi and the women that quietly protested against him.

They're joke and they got played. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.

You decided to give your vote to crooks and thieves, incidentally voting against Lindiwe Sisulu, a woman herself, and you blame patriarchy for the result?

Actually this is not surprising given Dlamini's actions over the payments saga. She refused to take any responsibility there too.

This two presidents thing is confusing.

Does ANC president have more power than SA president ?

Can Ramaphosa for example order Zuma to boot Gigaba and reinstate Gordhan ?

And - does Ramaphosa now not sit in Parliament ? He's still Deputy president of the SA so I presume he does.
