OT: ANC Elective Conference

Off course nothing would suit the opposition more than having a lame duck Zuma limp on as president untill the next elections.
 
Parliament needs to have its first meeting before a recall though. Their first term schedule is chock-full with pre-planned events and they can't exactly do it on the 8th when Zuma gives the SONA. It would have to be the 13th, and it needs to be tabled long before then.

Zuma was the greatest gift to the opposition parties. Going forward, they will find it very tough to make the same gains then did over the last few years.

The ANC is just as bad as Zuma, opposition can still use that

If you want less interference from the government, I would suggest to not vote ANC and to not expect from the ANC.

The minister of finance is not an independent entity, he does what the president/cabinet says. He can refuse to do it but he cannot do something against the cabinet’s will.

As long as Ramaphosa is there, I’m not too worried about who is in the seat, rather about how the brain drain at National Treasury and SARS stops.

Nobody with a brain would make such a blunt and biased statement.

Nobody with a brain would vote for DA either seeing how they're handling Cape Town right now.

Mind you, many brilliant minds vote ANC.

The anc is a cesspool rotten to the core with crime, corruption and dishonesty which is bordering on crimes against humanity and no honest person would vote for them.

I would bet that any of these people is intellectually worth several times your mind.

But sure, the DA is not corrupt, has no convicted, or dishonest people amongst them and has real policies (apart from not resolving water crisis, raising local taxes and criticising the ANC).

Amazing these people who can't see anything between black and white.

There hasn't been an election since the DA's bigger flaws came to light, you'd have to wait for one to assess how willing DA supporters are to punish their previously chosen leaders.

Which is very different from the ANC that has won multiple elections even after some of the biggest political and downright criminal scandals in the country's history.

I've been inadvertently in the middle of an electoral battle from the DA.

The DA and Afriforum tried to stop one of our projects during the last municipal elections campaign, saying that our project was wasteful (it actually achieves savings for the municipality), overpriced (our bid was actually the cheapest and it is way cheaper than Eskom would do it for), and corrupt (without any proof).

All of it in cover of the local newspaper + 3 pages with interviews with a DA councillor and the Afriforum representative stating wrong amounts, wrong scopes of work (showing they don't have a clue about it and threatening to sue) without consulting us before publishing or allowing us a right of response, we ended up giving them the choice of either:

- us giving them all the project documents and reassessing their position and issuing a public apology;
- suing them for defamation.

We never heard back from them but still got the documents delivered by courrier.

But their slander and tactics are as bad as the ANC.

That's just my personal experience, then you have their connections with the gangsters in Western Cape.

So did you follow through or did the DA (or local paper? which got the ultimatum?) just call your bluff?

We delivered all the documents to them (a few boxes actually) and never heard back from them, meaning that they probably realized that they were spewing lies. They never spoke of or criticized the project again.

Also, it was clearly bad faith since they made "mistakes" on the name of the project, on the scope of work (which are public in a public RFP and our website) and the amount almost doubled (which is public on our website). It's not rocket science to verify it.

I anyway have a cease and desist letter against them, ready to sue them anytime. :D

A few months later (after the election), we actually invited the local journalist to explain the project and visit the sites and now they contact us before publishing.

Should've just done it, it's high time politicians are reminded they are elected to serve. I may have voted DA multiple times, but there's no misguided love or loyalty, pure pragmatism.

I only wish the average voter was at least as pragmatic.

Creating extra costs litigating when it's not essential is not exactly cost efficient.

I'd love to do it sometimes but I refrain these urges.

Once the DA got > 2/3rds in Cpt, I stopped voting for them in the municipal and then local elections. It’s simple really.. you can’t have a single party with that much power as pragmatically there will always be corruption, fraud and stupid leadership regardless of which party. It just differs in % of these things vs parties involved. DA and De Lille’s party merged and there’s been a tough time there since including the resultant mayorship.

Anyway living in Gauteng so voting for them again till it swings. But again.. depends on leadership. DA in Jhb & Pta seems a different breed from Cpt in terms of running city. Keep in mind that cleaning up maladministration is their forte and Gauteng is as bad as it gets.

Wrt water crisis in Cpt.. you forgetting that this was not the 1st or last drought to hit. It’s happen at least 2 times that I recall growing up there and this last one everyone knew about 5+ yrs in advance. But you also need to know what a municipal, city, provincial gov has control over and the funds they control is limited with National government having fiscal control over it all along with curtailing any overreach.

In that sense I am not surprised by what followed.. what I do think though is that the DA focused too much of growing base, taking province than on the fact that Cpt sustainability vs water restraints did not allow for the population growth. It was dumb allowing the population to double while there was a drought coming. The municipality loves claiming that water use per person on avg is the same as before but the water sources are the same.

Anyway maybe I’m just ranting about those Gautengers overtaking my city but then I’ve gone and taken theirs haha and enjoy the water.. hahaha.
