Outrage over secret Halal

If it tastes as good as non Halal then who cares?

Nom nom nom nom!!!

Me, I'm sick of all these Restaurants turning Bacon into this Macon Rubbish.

Me, I don't want my money to fund Halal Organisations. I don't believe in it, why should I?

Me - halal costs more.

Me - If you watched eartlings, the halal process looked way more disgusting and dirty than the normal way:sick:

I have spoken to a butchery manager at Pick n Pay about this issue and he says in most cases the meat that comes from a lot of the abbatoirs is halaal - its just that some stores don't mention it if they sell other non halaal products. This is usually because once they have pork for example in the same fridge then the other meat doesn't generally count as halaal anymore.

I don't mind eating Halal or Kosher food.... but I believe there should be full disclosure of all information regarding the source and preparation of the food... that much is only fair and honest to the consumer.

If it were the other way around and FULL DISCLOSURE was not made to the Muslims, they would whine and bitch and moan from now till Heritage Day. So it should work the other way around as well.

It could be non halaal if no one called Allah's name before the chicken got chopped off.

Correct.

I worked for a chicken farm nearly 20yrs ago and the the guy who chopped the chickens necks had to mumble Allahs name each time - he also needed some Islamic pedigree to perform the job. They use an electric scissor to do this. Thing is fast and sharp.

BTW, the chickens die immediately and not a slow death as some will make you believe. I've got no problem with Halal chicken as those abattoirs need to meet certain hygiene standards.

EDIT, I checked Wikipedia as I remember there was something else about the process:

Thabiha or Dhabiha (Arabic: ذبيحة‎), is the prescribed method of ritual slaughter of all animals excluding fish and most sea-life per Islamic law. This method of slaughtering animals consists of a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck, cutting the jugular veins and carotid arteries of both sides but leaving the spinal cord intact. Furthermore it causes all the blood from the animal to gush out leaving negligible amounts of blood remaining in the body, the principle being that blood is a good medium for germs[citation needed].

* I think the Allah thing when slaughtering is more a ritual for the local muslims. Long time back and cannot remember much about it.

Well that would OBVIOUSLY happen since muslims aren't allowed to consume anything non-halal. I mean you come home and your wife makes something you hate to eat and camouflages it and you only found out later what would you do? Nothing? Coz she sure hell will do it again...
You people have a right to B!3ch and moan about this as much as muslims moan about non-halal things... But don't point the finger at muslims for this debacle, its the shop owner who ultimately decides what they want to serve to unsuspecting people...

1. Who are "you people"? You sound like PW Botha.

2. I was very obviously referring to the shop owners having to be honest with the clients/consumers.

You 're gonna have to try and keep up ;)

So far as I'm aware most sheep in South Africa is Halaal. It's actually rare for non halaal to be sold, kinda makes sense since Muslims make up a huge portion of the market and the majority up till now was oblivious to it and just did not care.

I haven't tasted a steak drained of blood before...
I like it medium rare and juicy.

I would prefer not to have hallal food but I wont nit-pick. I also don't want to pay more for my meat just because some bugger wants to pray over it.

Also isn't all chicken automatically hallal?

I remember going to KFC and asking for a Halaal certificate, normally they just lie to make business.
The manager showed me the certificate, it was legit, so I asked why done you put it up, you'll make more business he said the opposite, most of their clients don't want Halaal meat.
To bad they have a contract with Rainbow chickens and all their chickens are Halaal! :)

There's no difference in taste btw, also most premium franchised meat is Halaal.

Most of you have been eating Halaal meat for years, don't start wearing your holier than thou masks all of a sudden.

.... he says, even though he himself insists on a stupid certificate because his religion demands it

so you're not 100% halaal then?

or is there some exception i'm missing

I can ask for a certificate, so can you... Never saw a non Halaal certificate before, and could care less if it exists lol.
I got an idea, how about you guys stop eating meat? More for me :)

Att Nivek, its the Jews that drain ALL the blood from their meat...
