Outrage over secret Halal

"Masood Khawaja, president of the Halal Food Authority, said: “This is completely wrong. As Muslims have a choice of eating halal meat, non-Muslims should also have the choice of not eating it. Customers should know it is halal meat.”
Mr Khawaja, whose organisation approves most halal suppliers in Britain, said: “Everyone has the right to choose and should be given the right information.”"

Im my opinion, this says it all! As a consumer, I should at the very least have the right to choose and well said by Mr Khawaja! It would appear as if he is in full agreement that it is wrong for the religious beliefs of a small section of the population to be enforced on the public in general without thm even having the right to choose.

This statement made my blood boil: "A Twickenham spokesman said: “Our consideration is more for those who want halal, to ensure they get it.”" Um, what about those who DO NOT WANT HALAAL and are unknowingly being forced to do so by these actions?

Further: " A spokesman said: “It is not mentioned on menus because we don’t think there is customer demand for that information". Well, how would there be when its kept such a secret?

I for one am disgusted by this, not by the process involved in ensuring the meat is Halaal, I do not have a problem with that, if that is your religion I respect that. What disgusts me is the way that is just accepted that the public in general would not have any issues with this, without being granted to right to choose!

Choose what? Halaal or not, the animals are likely raised and slaughtered in dire conditions. Anyone who thinks that non-halaal meat is slaughtered "humanely" is misinformed.

Agreed!!!! I hate Macon! I feel offended that someone else are forcing their religious views down my throat! Especially if it is a minority, then it does not make sense. Unless I want to treat myself to a night of exotic dining and will then do as if in Rome. So if there is no Bacon then I will leave to find another Pizza shop down the road that sells what I want.

I don't believe any meat product sold today is ethical, even extending to food in general. I don't have a problem with eating meat but meat is not a consumable like a potato. When you go to any chain, meat products are packed in such a way that one forgets what it was and it then becomes the same as buying any other consumable. Lest one forgets that someone had to sacrifice something along the way. Either by labor, time and killing an animal that used to roam free for meat. Now they're all penned for mass consumption.

I don't see a way out of this other than acknowledging that cruelty happens and know that what you consume are not wasted.

In future an anesthesieologist will administer a drug to make the slaughtering more humane.Expect meat prices to sky-rocket.

Not really the point in my opinion, like someone mentioned before, surely if Muslims have the right to demand and know that meat is prepared and served to them in certain way and method (a right that I fully support by the way, this is a consumerism issue to me, not a religious one), then everyone else should have the choice not to have it done a certain way or method, or at the very least not have this fact hidden from them on purpose, so that they can indeed make a choice that is in line with what they believe or feel to be wrong or right.

The point that I was trying to make is that a select few have made the decision on behalf of the public at large, without having informed them, all to satisfy the religious beliefs of another section of the community. Surely I as the consumer have the right to know that the product that I am purchasing with my hard earned money has been prepared in certain way and according to the religious beliefs that I may or may not share, and then make the informed choice myself, and not have it made for me because I may or may not be bothered by it as the persons quoted in the article have done?

I have seen documentaries on slaughter houses, and the meat that is supposedly halaal and kosher, is not. It was always going to clash with production efficiency and profits, and it has, to bleed an animal until it dies just takes too long, it is not dead when it moves to the next phase of production. You rest assured on certificates and stickers. They aren't worth the paper they are written on.

I was wondering, If a person of Islam or Jewish faith, got lost in some place in the middle of nowhere. No food, no way of getting out, ad the only source of food was wild pigs. Would they kill them and eat them to prevent starving? Or is it that much of a sin that they wouldn't do that?

Can someone tell me what the problem is with pigs ?

The one thing I miss from my meat eating days is bacon - man the smell of it cooking is like nectar from the gods.

They are very clean animals and if they were not created for food then why ?

Pig meat is 90% similar to that of homo sapiens and they have very bad diets. So by eating pork you are actually eating dirty humans. Not nice.

Pig meat = human meat? What a laugh. The reason why people say pig meat is similar to human flesh is because pigs are omnivores. That means a pig's diet is similar to a human's diet. It does not mean that their diet is dirty, just similar. Someone needs to go back to school.

And I absolutely refuse to eat Halal meat. Because lions lip into their prey does not make it ok for humans to mistreat animals. I am not a big fan of PETA. But ffs, these animals feel pain and fear just like we do. Showing a little compassion is never a bad thing.
