So my mate is working for a company and they going to boot the outsourced IT guys out
obviously why need them if they have their own IT, thing is im always skeptical about doing it and tend to cover my a$$ incase they sabotage the system you know how people are they loose business and they get back at you somehow

Have told him to lock their user accounts out, cancel them off the VPN, perhaps block their IP on the firewall etc

what else would you think of ?

People lose business, not loose business.

The outsourced people would be very stupid to do that in any case. I'd expect it from employees, but not from the company itself.

Admin accounts? Domain Admin rights? Change documentation that allows them to do things like recall offsite backups...

There are evil people out there indeed, but, depending on the size of the company, and also not knowing who they are, they stand to lose a lot if it is proved they engaged in sabotage.

Not as far fetched as you might think. I was part of a outsource company and came across this twice. Once the incumbent did not hand over dom admin accounts and the second time they wiped the config off all routers, switches and firewalls.

Alright you have my attention.. and yes, you have a valid reason to be worried. It is hard to say over an internet forum where all the vulnerable points lie. A comprehensive analysis of your network is needed. And that doesn't mean I ever want to see the passwords. In fact I would rather I never saw them, but I can tell you what needs to be changed and where

1. I have no idea who you are or what or where your company is located.
2. It would be extremely stupid of me to do something unethical here.
3. I am willing to help you.
